Confusion following cranioplasty

Hello, my husband had a stroke (RHS) in September 2024, followed by a craniectomy. He was progressing quite well with speech making sense, and eating food, however, no movement on his LHS.

He had his cranioplasty 2 weeks ago and is now saying a few strange things i.e thought the rehab unit was a hotel we stayed in 12 years ago and has said he is ready to come home now (although he has understood in the past that he is unlikely to come home for another 3-4 months).

Has anyone else experienced a bit of a relapse following a cranioplasty?

Also, I'd love to speak to other partners of those who have suffered a brain injury. We have 3 teenagers (Husband is 49) and I'd really appreciate hearing how things are for you.

Thanks

morning my husband recently had a craniectomy back in September last year we are awaiting cranioplasty he also has left side weekness which the hospital were surprised with as they said it should of been the right hand side .. he suffered with a little confusion after having the skull bone removed but within a few days he started making more sense .. how was your hubby after the cranioplasty the nuro team are saying he could be home within 24 hours which scares me .. we also have 3 children 17 / 8 / 7 our teenager being the worse that’s been mentally impacted by this .. I hope your hubby is on the road to recovery x

Hi, thanks for the reply. I’m sorry you and yours children are going through this too… Is your husband home yet? My husband’s confusion has really reduced which is a relief! He’s in a Level 1 rehab unit and will be transferring to a Level 2 in April. We miss him at home (it’s been 6 months since the stroke) but, like you, I’m nervous about the return home and what our future looks like.. that said I am learning not to look too far forward but to try and focus on the positives of each day - it’s really helped. Look after yourself and keep in touch x
