I'm shocked, no recording allowed

I'm :o I just called Microsoft support disability helpline. I informed them that I was recording the call because I have frontal lobe damage. And he informed me that I can't record calls. I have no idea how a disability helpline can be so unaware of people's disabilities.

What are people's thoughts?

Thanks

That's an interesting one!

They may be recording the call or writing a transcript

Try calling them back and ask them to share a copy of the recording or transcript with you.

Ask them if you can communicate using a chat function either written or verbal because it can be saved by both parties.

If they don't or won't ask to speak to the supervisor and ask why not; explain that you have memory, cognitive issues etc which makes you vulnerable. If they won't do it tell them you are going to see your MP to complain about their service.

Rattle their cage and see what happens.

BT, Welsh Water, other utilities, insurance companies and Banks all provide at least a shared transcript option if requested.

You could record them without telling them on your phone.

You could use your phone on speaker mode and have audio to text converter software running on a computer next to you.

Here's an idea of free audio to text converter programs.

Good morning AlexB111

I'm afraid I wouldn't be shocked or even surprised. Getting any help out of organisations (including Headway) supposedly there to help us is extremely difficult so a commercial organisation ....

As pinkvision says, give them as much aggro as you feel able to do, report the event to any support organisation you can think of - Headway, local Brain Injury Service, GP, MP, etc. I'm always at somebody about something, no idea what good it does in general but I am tenacious and somewhere down the line usually hear or see something to suggest note has been taken at least.

Best wishes

Michael

hi Alex, I can honestly say when I speak to somebody I always say I have disability with my speech disability with my walking and I have had a brain injury, my bank has flagged me as vulnerable, the people I talk to Amazon,BT all the people of business have been so helpful, so caring so kind, I believe I may be wrong but most people record they say we are recording for training. which I think is a good idea, but I’ve never asked if I could record them. I don’t think I would know how to do that.. the only thing I could think you do is to write down or use your iPad when you are speaking to them. sorry I can’t be more helpful. Take care Liz.🙏⭐️

One of the reason I'd like to say I'm recording is so that not only do I have a copy but also so they might do their job correctly. I actually had problems with this same disability helpline a few months ago. Where no one knew how to solve the problem (which was really simple) they were just disconnecting the calls. This was so frustrating I even had to bring it up with my rehab nueropsych. Bad customer service is one thing, but when you phone a disability helpline and still get bad customer service, it seems four times as bad.

Why is it, hearing, or translation needs, are assisted for without question, but the minute you need to record something because of a brain injury you hit a problem? In fact you can almost guarantee if you need to record something the company or service will dispute this with you in some way. Why are we not protected like the hearing impaired? I'm going to take this to the top of microsoft. I actually asked them who that person might be, and they wouldn't answer that either. I feel we are discriminated against, compared to those with other disabilities.

Very discriminated as it is not even understood with our DRs .. I’m unsure how we can help to get this into the public eye … any ideas ??? Sue 🤔

the only was is for them to email or write to you or just record it and don’t tell them as they don’t need to know if it is something private for you … and yes they should understand but like everything we the head injury people are not understood . Write them a email and explain how this does need addressing … Sue 🤔

Life just seems more difficult despite all technology. Can you ask to speak to someone else, preferably higher up the chain of command?

If you are in England & Wales, remind the chimp at the other end of their responsibilities under the Equality Act. My most recent problem is with the web hosting company Easily. Once they learned I was brain injured and would require extra help they abandoned me! That is customer service for you! If you have a problem with Microsoft, write to Computeractive magazine. I am sure they'd love to take up your case.
