thank you headway for sending me my brain injury ID card.
anyone who has not got one, I would recommend you do get one, especially if you are able to get out and about by yourself.
The old card I had for many years was ok but the new card is much better, and if you find yourself in a pickle somewhere struggling for whatever reason I think it will give a very clear message to other people of your situation.

I do have the older one, though this lives in my wallet more I guess for Paramedics?
I’m did go some way to getting a new one but I’m not in regular medical contact and can do “normal” human for a while and am able to communicate well ie that I can’t do X or Y.
Ie the effort to get one seemed above the gain I’d personally get.
I do have lanyard which I use in busy public transport which I don’t do well with and some just aren’t doable anymore.
I found it difficult at first and didn’t pursue the card, but then Headway sent me a consent form which I filled in and sent back. Then the card arrived without me needing to do anything . Get someone to help you .
I’m getting one because I go to middlesbrough regularly and if people don’t no I have a brain injury and I need help I can show it
I got one in January. I put it in my pocket when I go out by myself otherwise I leave it in my purse. Like you said I think it's a good idea with the list of 4 things you can have on it about your injury. It might let other people know why you/me the way we are if something happens. 🙂
I hope you don’t mind me asking .. but is this for anger issues ??? I have had this from the off but of late I think it is getting a lot worse .. this is 3 years since my accident and I know my stress level is high with more pain developing in my hips from weakness in leg muscles I think as I’ve not hurt my hips .. I think it’s from weakness and ruptured hamstring .. so yes stress though the roof alone with aggression and I am concerned this is going to happen when I’m out and about .. Sue 😢
There are a list of things that you suffer from that you can chose to have on your card to help others understand you. I had chosen that my frustration/anger, emotional, no sense of taste or smell was put on mine. You can chose the 4 that you want people to know affects you when you are out and about. Hope that helps.
I got one a couple of years ago because carrying my neuro’s discharge letter reduced to cc size wasnt working and too complex for many to comprehend.
Since then it has been a boon in stressful situations and even once got me into a VIP disabled area at a concert, so thank you Headway! Being a Headway member does have unexpected benefits!
