suffered mine in 2000, 6 months in various hospitals years redefining the new me?! Catered for my parents/carers. Now abandoned by social services. Looking for somewhere to socialise after day centre closed! Brain scan to prove my disability etc. seems social services are more interested in kids after Covid!! Wonder how many like me have been cast aside?!! Happy new year

Good morning skydive

Nobody cares or is interested, 25 years of plodding on regardless has proven that beyond doubt for me.

But I have no intention of stopping the quest with any of these organisations, government and non-government, to take notice. In my opinion the treatment we brain injury survivors receive is beyond the pale and needs correction, not for me but for all the people unfortunate enough to end up in our club in the future.

All the people already being paid and funded to help us need to step up to the plate.

Best wishes for 2024

Michael

Happy New Year to you sds. It does seem like brain injury is right down the bottom of the pile of social care support and funding. Or it’s a postcode lottery as with much in our healthcare system. At least department for work and pensions are very slowly at a really lethargic snails pace - far too slowly in any way- coming to realise there are many many of us out here that aren’t able to work or will need adjustments to work. There are some organisations constantly pushing such as Emilia Clark’s SameYou charity- it’s all very well giving her an MBE or whatever she and her mother got, but as they have said, these MBEs are for all the brain injury survivors out there- not that we can do much with them either hahaha. We need funding and actual support, not pithy gestures! Anyway you catch my drift, people who are able still need to make noise about brain injury and the survivors to make sure we don’t get forgotten and to hopefully get more funding and exposure. After all apparently 1 in 3 of us will experience some form of brain injury in our lifetimes so it’s not as if it’s a rare type of affliction!

All the best for 2024 and a more positive outcome re your social care!

happy new year … yes couldn’t agree more with the whole system .. I’m 3 years post accident and still have leg weakness( along with other things .) which has now affected my hips not arthritis as that has been looked at and waiting for MRI on lower spin as possible nerve damage .. if that’s not the case then it could be from the brain injury . How long will my wait for MRI ??? Then how long for a wait to see someone about a follow on from that ?? So haven’t got any further than that .. and that’s 3 years of trying to improve myself by doing exercises classes two operations on shoulders and the legs stayed the same ( weakness) so the more I’ve done to improve all of me has. Now turned into very bad pain in the hips to the point can hardly walk up the stairs at times . This is all rattling on sorry 😔 but definitely feel your annoyance for different reasons about being not even on the radar ( cast off ) .. still wish you a happy new year and let’s hope we all will be listen to in the year ..Sue x

Fortunatly pins were removed in 12/22 as no one needing new hip wanted to have their Xmas ruined?!! Pain now aware of in knee, was pinned together when pin put in. Can live with it to remind me of my stupidity I think, happy new year to you!!

Oh Skydiver sorry to hear your frustration 🫤, yes social services are terrible and with frustration makes my blood boil so I give the GP what for and tell them rhis is no life to lead and tey to finish it. This gets them noticing but still took them 6 months in an emergency to make me see them. I pointed out to them they were lucky I was still here lol. Neurologists they are a joke and no help thry give no treatment despite letters and say we do not know how to fix you in a nutshell then nake appointment to see you in a year. I dont know what they think is going to change but I will give her a look of discuss and say what were you expecting to change? Employers that say they are disability approved, lol what a joke they do not support and say we are a business. For socialising I can't say very much as mostly tired and glad to stay in but it leaves a bad taste that we have no life. I personally try to defeat it and go out myself then spend 4 days in bed recovering and then tell GP i I got on train and andrellin ran out so ended up the very nirth of the country, and tge shovk on their faces. Have to laugh or you will cry. Hopefully the sun will be out soon and a mild year so we can soak up the vitamin D from sun and feel good! Keep in touch. Xx
