First off, you're are doing brilliantly to be able to post after the stroke in May. You can't drive for a month after a stroke, but provided that your eyesight is compliant (visual field can be tested) you may be able to drive. Stroke also affects the muscles, so you may need to be checked by a physiotherapist. You will need to speak to your insurance company, and the Authority who licences taxis. Speak to the Stroke Association for advice and ask for a copy of the My Stroke Guide. Find out why you've been advised that you you aren't safe to look after the children on your own. There may be a section in the hospital that dealt with your stroke who can provide mental support and advice for stroke patients and their partners.

As you've applied for PIP, has your disability been explained to you and your partner? Have you been told if it's permanent?

It seems your priority is financial support. If you've got a mortgage, your partner can ring the mortgage company to explain the situation. There should be a section of your local Council who can advise on physical and financial support.

For all of us who've had a stroke, it's a long road and it's different for everybody.

Hi Footballccfc,

I feel that a conversation with Headway would be beneficial in many ways.

Although your financial situation is the priority, it certainly sounds like you and your family need additional support in other areas.

You are at the beginning of this journey, and I would highly recommend reaching out as they will guide you on what is available. I believe that Headway also have a support package of some description.

Lastly, have you looked at ESA? My husband was assessed for this whilst still in rehab, he was added to the support group so does get a higher amount and doesn't have to job seek, he is only 45 but won't be able to return to work. His ESA was national insurance contribution based.

I hope that this helps and wishing you the best outcome and speedy recovery. x

Hi, Please try these exercises:

flintrehab.com/stroke-exerc...

They helped me as I lost my right side arm and leg and could mot walk or do anything.

Keep the physio going as it does work or see a neuro physio as the private ones are really good and everything is fixable despite doctors the physio's seem to know better.

Good luck.
