Cold in my back

I had brain hemorrhage September 2021I am always tired.. don't understand why. I sleep well.

But the worst problem I have had since leaving hospital, is the Cold feeling in my back. I use blankets or hot water bottle to try to feel better.

I'm cold, family and friends can't understand this, they say they are warm.

I saw my neurologist a couple of days ago, and asked him about it but he said he hadn't come across this before. Anyone else going through this on this site? Please help what can I do?

Hi, I’ve had something similar but just in one shoulder area. I don’t think it’s necessarily related just to my brain haemorrhage though, just aggravated by it. It’s more neck and shoulder muscle stress/tension. I find gentle movement helps, postural correction (head position especially) and even a bit of traction on my neck! I do still need to keep the area warm when sitting though as well. Sometimes ibuprofen gel rub helps too. If you feel your neck and shoulder muscles they may be tight and even a bit sore/ bruised to touch?

It’s not about temperature. I think the tightness of the muscles and poor posture can press on the nerves originating from the neck and fanning out over the shoulder area. These then register deep cold in the brain as they are compressed or irritated. A physiotherapist could give you more ‘hands on’ advice and actions to help safely and also check your neck mobility for involvement.

Thanks for your comments, it's no fun all these problems is it?

Definitely not and hard to decipher what’s as a result of the bleed and what can be treated/sorted another way. I found meditation and breathing deeply also helped to relax. There’s plenty of guided stuff on YouTube.

Good luck, x

Tiredness goes with the brain injury. There isn't much rhythm or reason, but we can sometimes minimise how this effects us by having naps, minimising stimulation. We do learn what drains our energy reserves, I know we all want to get back to "normal ", but often we forget how long it takes to recover, we often get in a cycle of doing too much, then fatigue that sleep doesn't relieve. Re being cold, it might be worth having a general check of your hormones, after brain injury these can often get out of sink, a little variation from the norm can make a big difference, feeling cold is often an indication.
