Access To Work - Anyone using this please?

Hi just applying for this to cover a taxi journey to/from work once a week. Bit confused about how payment side works from covering taxi and employer side. Anyone able to give me some tips? Having reduced my hours because of ABI I can't afford to pay potential £60 each way up front myself. Talked about employer covering part of cost too that would have been cost of train. How does that work too? Thanks.

I used this 9 years ago as part of my return to work.I think I got the taxi company to bill my employer weekly.

Could Remploy advise?

Hi,

I used this scheme about 61/2 years ago. I hope you find what I am about to write is useful but I’m very sorry if it’s not what you were hoping for . I’ve checked various websites, including the government website, so I believe what I’m about to write remains correct. Very sorry if there is something new that I’m not aware of.

Back then I think I was a bit like you; reduced hours, less pay and thinking Access to Work would pay for taxis . However, the more I deciphered the information, the more I realised this wasn’t how it worked.

Access to work only helps towards the costs of a taxi if you can show this is the only viable option. You pay so much per mile for the taxi (after all you probably paid to get to work before?)and Access to Work reimburses the rest when you present the receipts and expenses form. The form must be signed by your employer or work coach to confirm you worked on those days.

At the time I was fortunate enough to be able to self fund and hopeful enough to believe that I would be able to return to work in a full time capacity one day. Sadly this was not the case. But even if I had have been able to work part time, I would have had to consider the cost of travel coming from that reduced income and any other benefits that I may then have been eligible for. PIPS, ESA maybe or what ever benefits are available for low incomes.

Grants are available to your employer for making adaptions for you in the workplace. Even then your employer must agree to paying a small contribution based on the size of their business I think it is.

I hope this is helpful. A starting point to kick off your questions for Access to Work and your employer at least. Sorry it’s not better news though.

Good luck and I hope you get on well.

Hello, I hope this helps. My daughter currently receives help from access to work with her journeys to and from work. She has to pay a percentage of each journey. The taxi company send her 2 invoices every month. One she pays and one she forwards to access to work together with an access to work form that her employer must sign to say she has made the journeys. Access to work are sometimes slow at paying and there is often alot of conversations between all 3 parties but so far the taxi company have been very understanding.
