I’m not too great with names of flowers. If anyone knows the name, please tell :).
I drew these flowers for my mum for Mother’s day.
I started the picture last year but because of the lockdowns and not being able to see most of my friends and so on I think I lost a bit of motivation and I stopped drawing for a while, as well as my crafting.
But thankfully there is a craft group I go to that is still open during lockdown so I am thankful for that.
I don’t always enjoy the kind of crafting we do there but I bring along with me a sketch book if I get bored and have done a bit of sketching over the past few weeks.
I’ve had some compliments and it’s lifted my spirits a bit and I continued to draw those flowers for my mum.
It was the first week of March and I was probably 2/3rds through when I suddenly thought “When is mother’s day?” I knew it was in March and then found out it was on the 14th and I thought “Oh no, I thought it was around the 20th to 28th for some reason. I won’t be able to get the picture finished and get it printed onto a card before mother’s day”.
I told my mum this and thankfully she is laid back. She doesn’t mind that she won’t get the card on the day.
But she will be getting a little prezzie from me though :).

Although there was a touch of pink in the flowers, I think they looked more blue/deep purple in the actual photo.
Thank you anyhow, Cat :).
I think my mum will like the picture indeed.
And I know somebody else who might like the picture too.
I have a friend, I don’t think I am in her food books at the moment ( It’s to do with differences of opinion).
Anyhow, her birthday is on the same day as mine and usually I send her one of my drawings on a card for her.
I think she might be a bit surprised once I show her this picture..... and the other thing is, I remembered her say in a comment a few years ago that her favourite flowers were bluebells. I took a mental note of that and thought I would draw some sometime.
These bluebells were accidental.
The original photo came from another friend of mine who took the photo while on a walk.
I drew the picture mainly for my mum but now I know the flowers are bluebells and that has reminded me of another friend who loves bluebells... I hope you got all that :).
I don't take prints, I just mount up the originals in a card - but I paint small enough pictures to do that - I'm guessing this is a large format? Looks great though.
Thanks girl :).I used to draw straight onto cards but it’s not really a big enough drawing area. It was like drawing onto A5, which is ok but I prefer to draw on a bigger area.
The original drawing, and like my other drawings, are done on A4 card.
I don’t always get them printed. If I do a drawing for myself I will keep the original copy in my portfolio.
If I do a commission for somebody then I might draw and sell the original to them, if they want the original.
If they wanted a print of the drawing I would sell them that and I would keep the original.
The drawing of the bluebells was drawn on A4 card using colour pencils and I use a certain website called Redcliffe to print the pictures onto greeting cards :).
Sorry I am late to the party, my initial thought was harebells. These are pretty similar to bluebells. Again I am no botanical expert either, nor can I draw or paint, but well done....you have a talent. Keep it up, such things are good. 👍
A long time since we heard from you, glad your still around and posting yet another excellent piece of work for us to enjoy.
The pencil work on the flowers almost has the look of chalk. Indeed the style reminds of the very talented pavement artists I used to see in Paris when I worked out there.
Any mum would be so pleased to have something like that let alone have your own son produce it.
BlueBells do change shade from white through to deep purple depending on variant and soil condition. Most bluebells we see in the UK aren't native and are the Spanish version which like the grey squirrel is pushing out our native version by being more rigorous.
I haven’t posted pictures or crafts lately, I think lockdowns had got to me a bit, like they have with most people, and I lost a bit of motivation to do any drawing/crafting.
Thankfully, I am able to see a few friendly faces once a week and I have been doing a little sketching while I’m with them.
I think the sketching and the compliments I’ve received have lifted my spirits a bit and got me back in the mood to draw more :).
I usually try to draw some flowers for my mum and get it printed onto card so I can give that to her for Mother’s day every year and she keeps hold of the cards too :).
Lovely picture Matt and so realistic I had to go out into my garden to check how well mine were doing. I have them growing round an apple tree and they look like a bluebell wood but are not in flower yet but thanks for reminding me of what is to come lockdown or not. x
