Shoulder pain

3 days ago, I banged my left shoulder against the edge of a table as I was getting out of bed. It still hurts today. I don't see any discoloration or any indication of a bruise. What could be causing the pain? How do I treat it?

I would say the best thing would be to speak to a doctor. I tried self help with a painful elbow and ended up making it worse! Best of luck. Hope it gets better soon 🙂🌸

Hi, do you have your normal range of movement (even if a little painful)? I know we often bang bits, and don't really think about it, but did it feel like a bone hitting the table or a soft fleshy part (not usually a lot of difference with the shoulder)?

If you have normal range of movement, without any weakness, then you have possibly bruised near a bone. These bruises can sometimes be felt a bit like an egg. The bruising takes a long time to dissipate as they are held right next to the bone. Often they take a long time to discolour on the skin if at all.

Three days on would be a good time to try Ibrufen, if you can tolerate this class of drug and don't have any stomach problems. Always take these with or after food, even just a biscuit, always take them as instructed, and never take more. If you still feel discomfort, then it is safe to add in paracetamol, again follow the instructions.

If your range of movement is severely restricted, or you feel it gets stuck, or grinds then it might be worth getting a medical opinion.

Good luck 🍀

Thanks again. I have normal range of motion. The soft fleshy part contacted the table. I will try the ibuprofen.
