ICP wound still healing, but hurts

Maybe reassurance; where the ICP monitor inserted the area healing really well now. Stitches sort of poking out now like black string with little knot. But the area is dented and like a soft spot. Husband says it hurts, but hurts more when touched. No other symptoms out of the usual.

Is this normal.

Dear New_beginnings,

This 'sounds' fairly Normal, to me, and if it starts to Itch/ Irritate, in a few days, then it IS entirely Normal. If it hasn't 'Changed', say by next week, then 'Just Ask' your Doctor to have a 'Look' at it. Equally if it showns any 'signs' of swelling/ redness, definitely get it looked at.

I Think that 'All is Well' though Babe. Wish yourHubby well, from us all, will you please?

I've watched a video (link won't work unfortunately) of a woman having a probe removed, and it isn't surprising your man has a dent in his skull and discomfort !

Altogether an uncomfortable process being attached to a monitor by a probe in the skull, held in place by a bolt. The patient was anaesthetized for the fitting whereas she was fully conscious as the bolt was removed and the wound stitched.

I hope your man's poor head starts to ease soon (though signs of the indentation might remain slightly). Best wishes to you both... Cat x

I had the black string stitch with knot too I always remember thinking it looked like really old fashioned stitching nowadays you would expect dissolved stitches I can still feel where my dent is with finger but no pain, chances are his is still tender

Im just panicking when time comes to take out, looks like a nurse will need to intervene when time comes. Did you feel pain any soreness after. Did it make you feel queazy after. Im just wondering how to prepare, best time to book app around kids just incase hes not feeling good after. But at this stage he cant wait until its removed. Im speaking with neuro surgeon in few weeks

I had mine taken out by the nurse at my nurse at my Drs surgery it wasn't painful at all I think it hurt her to do it rather than me,it's probably at the minute he notices it more I could hide my stitches and shaved area with hair from the top of my head so didn't have to look at it ,like I said I can feel were it was by the dent but it doesn't hurt and I kinda think that the dent proves how they kept me alive with that bolt monitoring my brain it's a good scar to me now a sign that I was put in the right hands to let me live

I meant to add go easy on yourself you are doing a great job with your hubby,I send you my love and respect

Thank you, Im going to phone GP to discuss looking at area, i feel stitches ready to come out maybe but they may hold off until neuro surgeon app, been having a good look this evening again as healing well, its 2 knots poking out.

That's it 2 knots my gp just made an appt with the nurses treatment room and she got rid of my strings it didn't hurt and it felt better I felt I could finally wash my hair and not have to avoid the strings, good luck

Its 7mths no issues until now prior stitches to be arranged. Gosh nervous wreck on this now, might be antibiotics to help maybe, i dont know to prevent and complications

Stitches out today, been tense 24hrs. Was confrontation as expected, did run 9pm to release stress when everyone settled. Now time for bed, feels like a little milestone today, overwhelming, nurse was fabulous despite his rocking, but he did stay still during them taken out.
