New member of site. Have been in hospital for SAB and had 2 angiograms which showed no aneurysms. Only just succeeded with finding out from the hospital what after care I need!

Happy for tips to recover from a SAB

Sorry Hedwig but I've no idea what SAB is, and neither Google nor the acronym finder came up with answers. Can you explain the condition briefly ? Cat x

This is the problem with acronym’s. It is sub arachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) I cannot even remember my diagnosis.

Ah, well you're in my territory now ! I had a SAH in Dec 2011.

Another question ; I'm confused about your details.....I had a titanium coiling procedure to close off the aneurism. How is it that your scan showed no evidence and what, if any, treatment did you receive ? x

Already too technical for me! All I know is that the hospital said I had a SAH but 2 scans have confirmed no aneurism. After 8 days after discharge I finally managed to speak to nurse specialist. Need further scan but no real information about self care or what risks are for future as totally came out of blue. This website very useful for filling in gaps.

Have you tried phoning the Headway helpline for advice and support on your condition ? The staff are lovely, helpful people and can help explain your symptoms and answer any questions you have.

The tel.no. is (freephone) 0808 800 2244 - during office hours.

My SAH was spontaneous and, after an emergency admission and a coiling procedure, plus rehab, I was left with poor short term memory, emotional instability, mobility and balance problems and headaches.

The first 2 years are challenging after a bleed. Adapting to changes such as intolerance to bright lights, noise, crowds etc. and loss of dexterity, concentration and patience takes many months to get used to.

I'm now 8+years on and my life is as close to 'normal' as it'll ever be......different, but surprisingly ok.

Phone the helpline on Monday Hedwig ; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Best wishes, Cat x
