I have just been discharged today from hospital after surgery for above. I had my surgery on 16/07/2017 Feeling anxious as headache feels worse tonight and wondered if this normal? Taken paracetamol as prescribed.

Wondering if maybe stress of being discharged ?

Thank you

Possibly the headache is worse due to anxiety, i.e. A stress headache.

I had two subdural hematomas and had headaches of differing levels for quite a while, still do now and then, years later.

Could be, but do ask for more medical advice or pop to see doctors just for reassurance.

I went back to hospital several times for several months after my discharge "just in case" .

Did the parcetamol help? Hope so ☺

If you can, it might be worth keeping a bit of a headache diary over the next few weeks/months.

Good luck

I hope you are recovering well. I had my surgery last June and a year on I'm having headaches blurred vision again. Waiting to see neurologist but I read that a lot of us suffer headaches following surgery. It's normal to suffer anxiety following what has happened to you. But although I'm not recovered, I have good days and bad now. I found comfort in reading the experience of others. Guess we have to deal with stress and anxiety which is due to the trauma. But you will continue to recover all be it slowly. Best wishes to you xx

Hi,

I had varying headaches and still do, but nothing at all like they were at first. I still think it's really important to go back to your GP if anything changes in a major way in the early days. Even if it's just for reassurance.

In amongst the bad headaches after hospital, I had some particularly bad headaches which floored me. My partner wanted to call an ambulance on a couple of occasions. It goes to show that headache severity can be unpredictable and can change. What's normal for one person might be very different to what's normal for someone else.

I spent months blaming bad headaches on different food I'd eaten, the wether and low pressure, stress and anxiety, toothache, rebound headaches from pain killers, sleeping awkwardly, being shaken about on the bus ......well everything. Two years on I realise they were probably all just headaches of varying severity that were maybe going to happen anyway as its just how it is.

I hope you're feeling a bit better now, but don't be frightened to go to the GP and seek advice and perhaps ask for a stronger pain killer than paracetamol to have in case of emergency if a bad one comes along in these early days. It's still very early days for you. I do feel for you......it's hard getting through that first bit until it all evens out again. I feel very cross with myself now thinking about how much I struggled along in excruciating pain with just paracetamol becusse of trying to be brave and polite. Won't do that again :) Take yourself to the doctors and get some good painkillers. You might feel more relaxed if you known they're in the cupboard if you need them. You might not use them but knowing they're available might help? Good luck with your continued recovery :)
