Vegative state: Hi again..... my son is on week six... - Headway
Vegative state
I don't have any advice to offer but I just wanted to sentlots of good wishes to you and your son.
I send all positive wishes and prayers to you.
Have you called the Headway helpline? They can offer unparalleled support and information. Their number is 0808 800 2244.
Sorry Jacque I posted earlier on your previous thread asking you how it went yesterday. I'm so sorry it was such a poor diagnosis. It'll be a dreadful blow, especially after you were upbeat about getting to speak with the consultant.
You'll need time to process this news, but perhaps in a few days you might care to contact Headway for all relevant information pertaining to PVS. Keeping abreast of Craig's predicament will be painful, but I hope you'll speak with Headway (0808 800 2244) for support and advice in staying afloat after such frightening and painful news.
There have been cases where PVS patients have progressed but they're not the norm, so fearing the worst whilst hoping for the best seems the only option right now. My heart goes out to you my dear....x
Whilst it is not comparable, I was in a 50/50 coma for a couple of weeks after my TBI in 2014. Whilst you will always receive professional opinions, they can sometimes be proved wrong. I hope the vegetive is not correct for you. Good luck x
I had a level 5 SAH in 2015. It happened on 23 Dec and I cam home on 7 March after a period of rehab in the excellent BIRU in Bristol. Friends and family tell me that in the early stages I was very poorly but I of course have no recollection. The only lasting problem I had was my already arthritic knee was exacerbated but that streamlined me into the orthopaedic system and I had a partial knee replacement in 2016. I did however suffer a one off seizure in 2018 which they attributed to the SAH but that is under control with meds and there have been no recurrences. Slowly and surely I have returned to what is a new normal and am grateful for it. It still is early days for your son but lots of us come through it and I'm sure he will too. All the best to you both.
Hello again, I'll try and help but I had to ask the family because I have no recollection of the early stages. Mine started with a total collapse at home and I was put into an induced coma by the ambulance crew. That was on Dec 23rd and I was taken to the ITU. Then on Christmas eve I was operated on when the bleed was coiled and a stent inserted. According to my family I came round almost straight away after the op but was disorientated and not fully conscious for 2 or 3 days afterwards. They say I kept trying to pull my various tubes out and I have a vague recollection of that. At my follow up angiogram in the March of 2016 I was told that whoever performed the coiling procedure had done an excellent job. I was put onto a blood thinning drug (can't recall the name) but now I'm now on daily aspirin. The family were never told that I was in a vegetative state but early on they described my survival chances as 50/50. I doubt if any of this helps you but please try and stay positive and put your faith in the medics and you son's will to get better.
Kind regards to you both.
