I discovered this booklet just now and part of me is very sad that I hadnt found it 2 years ago.

But then 2 years ago I doubt if I could have managed to read it all anyhow!

As I read through, so many things made me feel so many things! Mostly mixed up Like Ahah! I knew this was real! with a happy face emoji, and at the same time... Ahaah, this is really real! With a sad face emoji.

The booklet covers so many things including advice for caregivers and family members to support them in this journey.

This is likely old hat stuff for a lot of you, but on the off chance that it will help even one person I have to share it.

Hi

Thanks so much for up loading this - I'm going to try and read it but it may take a while! I also look at Ted Talks which can be helpful. Have a good day everyone

Hi, I have just been looking at some of the information in the booklet in your linked and am finding it very interesting. As a friend to my friend Andy, who had a traumatic brain injury in April this year, we have both had a fraught time. Myself, going from being friends with not too many problems, to being a carer as he hasn't got many friends or family who are able to help. We have had help from Headway and after 6 months are in the process of having a carer come for 1hr a week to take him to the shop and check around his flat. I've got Attendance Allowance for him which starts this month. You have to wait for 6 months. We're waiting on a financial assessment from social services and have a nice social worker on board. I have found it very frustrating waiting so long to get help for Andy and sometimes feel it has a impact on my health also. I have talked with a lady from Curo, a care agency acting for social services and have done a carer's assessment with her and have got some useful information. I could also access some counselling through them too without waiting too long. I hope to continue to support my friend by reading information about his condition and looking at posts on this site which I have found very helpful when feeling like no one else knows how I was feeling and felt like I was hitting a brick wall getting help for Andy.

Sure am pleased that there was some small help in there for you. Help in a format that we can access in small bits seems to be best for me.

Wish you and Andy all the very best, hope you both get the support you need.
