Anger

Hi all,

My partner has returned home following a serious traumatic brain injury in February, spent 9 weeks in rehab.

Has only been home a week, i was fully expecting anger and mood swings and there has been through the week, but today has really been bad. He's smashed up a lot of things, gates, bin, glass & more. Our children (4 & 1) unfortunately witnessed this. To begin with I just let him get on with but eventually intervened, we argued and he's gone upstairs. I didn't have any immediate fear he would hurt us, but i don't know how far he will go. He did have a temper before, but would just be a lot of swearing and grunting.

Any wisdom how to cope when the person is like this? & if this is how he will probably be from now on? I know it's still so early in his recovery and him being home, but i don't think i can live like this for my kids sake.

Thankyou

Your kids come first. You must get them (or him) away from this environment, it is not good for them. On Monday, take him to see his doctor and explain it to him, maybe some anti-depressants would calm him.

I speak from experience, my normally placid husband lost his temper once over nothing and attacked me almost killing me. He had no idea afterwards what he had done. I was given valium to give him if ever I saw that he was getting too stressed.

Thankyou for your response, but wow was not expecting that! Do you mind me asking if you're still together and has he calmed down with anger now?

Yes your children must be the priority.

Seek medical help immediately.

Good luck.

He had seizures a couple of days after the injury, so on anti seizure. I'm told by a lot of the medical staff along the way it's a high dose too

one of the side effects of keppra is feeling aggressive. aggression is one of the problems of a brain injury, put the 2 together...........

i think you need an appointment with his neuro asap to discuss alternative meds.

Levitiracetam or keppra as its more commonly know as

Few YouTube videos about keppra rage and it’s effects

Would ask for a meds’ review by your Nuerosurgeon as this is protocol drug after surgery to prevent seizures

There may be other more suitable treatments or meds for your partner

Hang in there your doing a great job
