Long haul flights with an ABI

Have flown many times short-distances, also to Vancouver several years ago post SAH, but I'm wondering if anyone has flown any further, say Australia? The Vancouver flight was ten hours (I slept most of the way) and felt great the whole time I was there. But on the return flight got clobbered with jet lag. I felt quite ill for a couple of weeks on top of my cfs symptoms. I know I could break the journey half way and stay overnight but thinking I'd quite like to go the whole hog. Has anyone any experience/advice to offer?

I had a TBI rather than ABI and have flown long haul many times since. I find that the direction in which you fly plays a big part in the effects of the jetlag. Outward bound flying west (West Coast USA or Canada) no real problems and I adjust within the first 24 hours, return leg and the jetlag clobbers me for about a week.

When I went to NZ I flew to LA, changed planes and flew on to Auckland. It was a non stop flight with a 2.5 hour refuel stop in LA. The jetlag was awful and it took several days before I could properly feel the NZ earth beneath my feet. I think it is because I travelled too many time zones, first going backwards to LA and then forwards. NZ is 12 hours ahead of UK. Oddly the return journey was nowhere near as bad.

Advice is to stay really hydrated during the flight, get as much rest as possible on the journey and get onto local time as soon as you can.

Happy travels.
