HELP! PIP assessment appeal advice greatly appreciated

Hi all, I’ve today received news that the PIP assessment result are that I no longer qualify for PIP as “my needs have changed”?!?!? Interesting summary from DWP, as I had a brain haemorrhage 6 years ago and have been left with a permanent brain injury, (short term memory issues, poor concentration, intolerance to noise, difficulties multi tasking, and 50% sight loss in both eyes, so unable to drive etc as visually Impaired). Really struggling to see what needs have changed? Anyone had any similar inaccurate reviews and been able to successfully appeal? Thoughts, advice and feedback very welcome, I only have 30 days to appeal apparently?

Many thanks in anticipation.

The first thing is that currently 65% of PIP appeal are successful at appeal Tribunal and the chance of success are higher if you have an adviser helping.

Before you can submit an appeal you have to ask, PIP, for a Mandatory Reconsideration (30 day time limit).

If you have supporting evidence it can be provided now or later if you go to an appeal.

Google search "Welfare Rights" and your location, you should get a list of agencies providing benefit/appeal advice. Ideally you'd can get advice/help before your Mandatory Reconsideration 30 day deadline.

Good luck

It's pretty demeaning to be struggling daily with a condition we've learned about the hard way and spent years coming to terms with, for some clueless stranger to assume they know best what our capabilities are.

Your appeal will carry much more weight with the back up of an agency such as Welfare Rights (as suggested by Seali and who I personally found brilliant on two occasions) though it depends on your local council whether they provide an adequate service ; mine was Trafford council in Cheshire but they've struggled since the Tory cut-backs.

And please give Headway a ring ; they're better placed than anyone to provide the facts of brain injury. Also, for a small fee, you can get 1to1 help from the 'benefits and work' website.

Good luck ...........I hope it won't be too stressful ! 🙄

Hi there, keep going - all the way to appeal tribunal and it will get sorted. We got great support from our local Headway who can provide support for PIP - they were great in keeping us going through the reconsideration and appeal. Unfortunately it took a year from the initial DWP refusal to get to tribunal. End of May we won at appeal tribunal and are awaiting the year's backpay (they stopped paying DLA when PIP was refused May 2017).
