I can’t apply for my license back just yet after a TBI but I’m hoping to do. Thank you for posting about this topic, it seems to vary such a lot.
Hi, my husband had an accident in July 2016, which resulted in a SAH. I forwarded the forms to the DVLA who requested his license back. They told him he could reapply 6 months later. We did this and provided the details of his consultant and nurse who had given him the ok to drive. It was a long process, it took over 6 weeks and a complaint to the CEO of dvla before he got it back. (24 hours within him emailing the CEO.
I called every day, when they said he could drive he was able to do so without waiting for his license to come through the post. I did call twice to double check.
What I’ve learnt since is if the license had been returned voluntarily it would have been easier to get back.
Hope you get yours back soon, but a bit of advice; driving may not be the same.
My husband was tired after driving - likely due to concentrating and to start with he was over cautious.
Take it slow to begin with.
Good luck x
Yes! I haven't had a SAH but do have a BI. I have been hospitalised several times to put in and change a Shunt. Each time I lose my license for at least 6 months even though I feel fine after a month. I realise the DVLA must be cautious but it drives me mad as I would never drive if I thought I wasn't safe to do so.
