Does anyone know of a urine collection system suitable for electric wheelchairs? This may be the wrong place to ask but no-one has been able to help anywhere else. I find the 500ml leg bags prescribed to small and I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem.

Hey Mu47,

I'm not too sure how much this may help you but I've found a UK company called Optimum Medical who make slightly bigger bags at 750 mL. Their website is:-

optimummedical.co.uk/contact.

The only other option would be to attach a larger bag, i.e. a night bag instead which hold up to 2000 mls but of course this would be much more cumbersome.

Good luck in your quest, wishing you all the best.

Hi thank you for your interest, I've had samples of a one litre leg bag but it was difficult to fit and the tubes were too long for me. I know what I need is available for manual wheelchairs so frustrating!

Ooh good question! the larger "night" bags have a clip which possibly could be fitted to the frame of the wheelchair, would depend on the chair, and getting the right clip. it would be clearly visible though and inherently fragile.

You need to chat to your prescriber as 500ml full is a heavy weight on your body. so needs to be a better solution really.

I've asked my District Nurse who changers my catheters but she's tried to find an answer and failed, like me she thinks there must be others in need. The wheelchair supplier's told me to contact the Nurse! Many thanks for your interest I have considered your suggestions in the past but unfortunately they've not worked out. It's so frustrating when I see what I need available for manual chairs.

If it’s a electric chair, again cumbersome, but most Night bags have long cables so could be piped from leg to night bag stored in a rucksack hanging at the back, still would have its issues.

I guessed as much as I work in nursing myself. I'm so sorry that there is no solution as yet, but will keep everything crossed that something changes soon. Take care x

That must stop you going out. I do not know but I am sure a wheelchair place could help you depending where you are based there are good mobility shops in Sheffield and Manchester. I had problems obtaining a wheelchair that I needed. I had to get my last one from America. So if you have not luck in this country look on line. Good luck.
