Working again

My husband is 7 months out in his recovery. He wants to go back to work as soon as he's well enough. I just don't want him to get very depressed if he can't. He's also was a truck driver. I try to tell him to have a open mind if he can't go back to work m but he's not trying to hear it.

Hi there.

You dont say recovering from what exactly. Some form of bi but what.

Main problem will be fitness to drive. After that there is also fatigue to conquer.

We are far from medics and without injury details it is hard to try and give sensible help.

Yep that sure is a bi then.

He is doing great being on no meds so quickly. Like Exhausted wife says if you are in the U S i'm unsure on law about driving but i would be suprised if you dont have to notify driving agency ( dvla in uk) about his injury especially due to his job being driving based.

Maybe headeay may be able to shed light on this.

Hope he keeps on recovering so well.

Pax

I think you are probably in the US. What are the rules about driving again after a head injury there? Here in the UK , you have to get permission to start again and may have to have a test. Could he do some other job for a while until he is completely better, maybe part time so that he doesn't get over tired?

This is a tough situation. For me swallowing the idea that I wasn't able to continue working as I once had was devastating. I cried plenty, got angry and frustrated, was in denial about it, and plenty else. It took me some time to finally realize that I had to make a change about working the way I used to be able to do. Because the more I tried to do it the old way the less it worked and the more frustrated and fatigued I got. I don't know what you can tell your husband, unless you want to show him this post of mine. I am open to communicating with him and or you about this, if either of you is interested.

Morning Desire

As others have said it would be up to the Doctors to decide if your husband is fit to drive. Here in the uk after bi you would be asked/told not to drive for a period of 3 months then if the constant deems you fit to drive then you can. This happened to me after my bi. Its frustrating but I'm sure your husbands driving insurance will not be valid if the medical professionals don't release him to drive.

I think it's up to the state rules as to what he'd have to do to return to driving, and driving lorries at that, but I'm sure you and He know that.

Does I guess depend on the damage, for myself personally, I took to driving again, with ease. About same time as your husband, I was warned by the Doctor to take care with long journeys.

I find driving very easy and can manage though as day go on, I tend to shy away from driving since I'm worried I'll get tired and make a mistake.
