Sleep difficulty

Hi - I had a TBI during a rollover car accident in August 2016 which caused a stroke affecting my right side. I have had trouble sleeping. I go to bed and then wake up after 2 to 5 hours and can't get back to sleep. Ihavetried taking oxycodone before bed and take Zoloft and trazadone before bed. Anyone else having sleep troubles?

Hi Ecojackie yes I have had sleep problems I've gone from one extreme. I can sleep for a little time and then not able to go back to sleep. Or the opposite I have slept more than I've been awake. Its difficult to judge so I've just gone with and decided not to stress myself out. I've been using relax techniques, music, breathing exercises and most recently meditation. I don't know if you've tried any of those or that they would be any help to you. I always think every little bit helps :-)

Hiya

I had a stroke in 2015 and apart from a period of about 16 months when i had frozen shoulders which made sleeping very difficult i can usually sleep for England. When i have needed something i've taken Kalms which you can buy off the shelf. x

I'm afraid that since my accident, 3 years ago this weekend, I've had difficulty sleeping. Currently I'm taking mertazapine together with melatonin and herbal sleeping tablets and seem to be getting a bit better rest, but would love to sleep all night. It can take ages to get to sleep and I always wake in the night. I listen to relaxation stuff too which helps a bit. Too much wine helps, but obviously not a long term solution :-)

Hi,

Soon after my stroke in oct 14 I found that sleep was a big issue.

It helped me to come off the tramadol....onto amitriptyline.

Also was reminded of all the sleep hygiene things ( strict bedtime and getting up time, cool, aired, tidy bedroom, no computer/smartphone at least an hour before bed), get enough exercise, relaxation meditation, slightly weighted bedclothes, don't get overtired, lavender oil etc etc).

It's possibly still a bit early to expect to be more settled for you......Hope you find something that helps

I could sleep for England now (but not necessarily be refreshed)

Good luck!
