Sounds all too familiar Andy ! I went to a birthday party recently and aimed (at any cost) to expertly blend in with the other 50 or so familiars.

Arrived at 8pm determined to be smiley, cordial and amusing, but had to keep stepping outside into the cold to escape flashing lights, Rod Stewart tribute artist and heat.

Left 10pm with blistering headache & confined to bed following day......................Roll on Christmas ?

Not at all ! Firstly I was drinking Jack Daniels & Coke (just the one as I was driving) ; secondly I circulated a great deal, laughing & joking around.

But I soon got weary of shouting above the music to make myself heard and, when the headache hit, I just needed to get the hell out.

There's only so much small talk I can do anyway before the panic hits ! xx

Well tonight let's hit the sack and sleep right through...lol !

Sadly I did this last New Year - fell asleep at about 9pm and knew nothing until 4am. I was so annoyed, missing seeing in the New Year: I always used to go outside after the TV countdown to watch the fireworks and wish lanterns in the sky. Darned relapse !

I don't do well with flashing/chaser lights either - my lights are static and peaceful at my house. The white loveheart shaped ones I put on my tiny tree this year are from a Headway raffle : )

I still like Christmas but struggle with the prep and energy levels. As usual, I'm way behind with everything !

Hope you can get some relaxing family time out of yours x

I love the humour of your videos, but admit I sometimes find the poignancy of each message upsetting (Rehab tell me it's because I haven't accepted my circumstances). This message seems to capture exactly how everyday / normal items or scenarios can hinder us. Just trying to explain to people how spending time with them will drain me & send my brain haywire, drains me & sends my brain haywire 😄 Oh the irony! This year I'm hoping Christmas will be 'good enough', as I don't have the energy to strive for perfection. I intend to carve out quiet spells for guided meditations / relaxation exercises as an antidote to the busy times.

Hi Curious. 'Good enough' is fine, I'd settle for that. Take Christmas (and indeed every other day) at your own pace, it's the only way.

Well done again Andy! I haven't been on for a wee while because I'm stressing about everything at the moment(check up mri in Feb to see if the radiotherapy's made a good job of blasting the tumour)! so that video summed things up nicely! To avoid everything that you mentioned I had a very quiet time and New Year was even quieter than Christmas! Hope you got through it all with minimal damage! I kept having to change the tree lights to not flash as it was driving me crazy! Felt bad but the tree was down as soon as it could be! I did manage a gin or two tho! Hope you are as well as can be expected! xx
