Sorry for not being chatty lately...

Today is the day my brother in law has his op to remove his tumour. He's in now...it could take between 8-12 hours to do! Everyone is trying to be brave but obv v upset. He's been told if it takes longer than eight hours he will be in intensive care, if not he will be in high dependency....amongst other awful things. Facial paralysis is likely and speech therapy may be needed, they can't remove it all and he too will need radiotherapy. (He's a young man with two young infants and a wife) I'm also feeling for my husband, as he has had to be so strong for the past three years with me going through this, now his brother. It's a lot of stress and it's taking it's toll on his health too but he soldiers on for everyone else. I hope you are all well and when you're not, you are managing to get through the days like we all have to now....as best as we can. Lots of love to you all. xx

Another difficult/challenging day for you Peaches ; for all of you. You've been so brave and strong throughout your own ordeal and I don't doubt you'll 'step up' once again for this one.

It's hard not to feel victimized at times like these and give in to despair, but you've shown how much courage you're capable of, coping alone with your own trauma, so I wish you continued strength & send sincere best wishes for a good outcome.

Look after yourself, and let us know how things progress.

Love, Cat xxx

Thank you so much for your kind words once again. It is hard not to feel victimized and horrible thoughts are entering my head but I'm rising above them....I'm telling myself I have a bin in my head like on the computer and everytime I feel sorry for myself or start worrying I flip them in the bin! ....other people would think I'm crazy but I know you guys all understand what you have to do to stay sane. Hope you're well. xx

Good metaphor Peaches ; keep throwing the negatives in the bin.

Please give us news of your brother in law's progress when you feel up to it. xx

Peaches

my heart goes out to you. Waiting is so hard. You say you are worried about your husband.

Would he consider joining the forum or any of the other parts of healthunlocked?

That is ,as you say, an awful Lot for one person to deal with.

Hoping for the best possible news for you all.

Lovenhugs

Xoxo

I have said to him about joining as I do read some posts to him and he is very interested but he is happy for me to be on and inform him of things I read. He is honestly like an angel without wings, I have never come across another human being with such empathy and understanding of our conditions....I am truly lucky. He has had a promotion at work and is also studying Law in the evenings, which is beyond imagining how on earth he copes with it all!....I struggle to concentrate to write a birthday card now but look and seem(normal...hate that word). A true gent and he's mine!!! Wooo hooo, god was watching me that day we met!

Well the news is we paced around all day yesterday.... the op took twelve hours and around forty five minutes! Poor family are all shattered, the stress was immense but it's sounding like it's been worth it... they have removed most of the tumour but had to leave a slither as it would have caused facial paralysis and speech problems. He has spoken and seems to comprehend everything!!!! Go him or should I say go us!!!! He has a long road to go yet as we all know and then it will be me in February getting my results on how my radiotherapy has gone....really hope I don't have to go back into theatre! Feel like I constantly walk on a treadmill, exhausting but never getting anywhere! Anyway, that's great news for today guys and thanks so much once again for listening. You are all the best listeners I could wish for! Hope you're all doing fine and have a great day! xx

I was about to post to ask how it went & found your great news Peaches.

Yes, there's a way to go but this was the big 'decider' wasn't it. Your brother-in-law can concentrate on his therapy now and look towards his recovery.

Best wishes for both your and his continuing improvement and recovery.

Hopefully you can all sleep a little easier tonight. Love Cat xx

Thanks again Cat. My husband is there now...I'm feeling rather down, infact I'm in tears today...I was fine then (a simple text to my mother floored me)... I asked about what size of jumper to buy for my sisters birthday and her reply was....well you haven't had your results yet....you don't know what expenses you will have coming up so why not forget Xmas this year, you have already paid for renting a flat when you had your treatment this year and you may need more at the beginning of the year, or worse!!! Phewww I feel soooo deflated and worried again for my life! I'll need to flip the lid of the bin again with that reply as it's not taking much at the moment to scare me into

reality. Hope you are well. xx

That just isn't helpful is it. When you're on the 'edge' but bravely keeping control of your emotions, such a negative comment is bound to unnerve you.

I think (with all due respect) you need to consign your mum, or at least her comments, to the trash bin along with all other unwanted ideas.

From an outsider's perspective, things are looking extremely positive.

But those nearest to us are often the most pessimistic as their perspective is distorted by fear and, so often, irrationality.

Bin all that 'wrong' thinking Peaches and take yourself back to a couple of hours ago when things looked so promising, because they do !

Sorry you've been upset. xxx

Hi Peaches,

Sorry to hear about your brother in law and I wish him well with his operation.

What your brother in law is going through right now sounds just like what I had done to me excepst I was 11, almost 12 at the time.

I had a brain tumor, located on the brain stem meaning the tumor was also causing hydrocephalus and I have a shunt installed also. Through complications I have to keep the shunt installed all the time and because of these complications I have had many operations on my head.

I have a slight right sided paralysis and muscles are most weak in my face.

Did your brother in law eat a lot of fruit and veg before he was diagnosed?

Reason I ask is because I lacked in eating natural foods when I was younger and after research on the internet I believe that I wouldn't have had a tumour to begin with if it wasn't for my poor diet.

I used to drink gallons of diet coke. Diet coke contains a sweetener called aspartame which is a horrible chemical, can cause brain cancer and I believe is the root cause of my tumours.

My GP told me after the first op in 96 that my tumour, he guessed, was growing all my life. That would have been about ten years. Then two years later, in 98, I was diagnosed with a second tumour and had radiotherapy on that.

So I do not believe that cancer, tumours, whatever illness, is about luck of the draw or it's in the family or anything like that. I believe it is all down to what you put in your mouth.

Like I said about your brother in law, I wish him well and after his op make sure he stocks up on fruit and veg, I would.

If only I and my parents had this knowledge years ago.

Take care,

MJ

Hi Matt, Thank you for your reply. He has come out the other side and so far things are looking good for him, he has just eaten breakfast!!!....fingers crossed it continues! Sounds like you have been through the mill but you seem to do very well and are more than aware of healthy eating and its benefits....good stuff... keep it up. We have all suffered in one way or another but we are stronger for it (well some days anyway) You take care of yourself and get back to the art work you are so obviously good at.... that's a talent that you shouldn't waste! Hope you are well. Thanks again. xx
