I am a Brain Injury survivor

I know pain,

I know fear,

I know tears,

I know loneliness,

I know confusion,

I know the frustration,

I know the loss of friends,

I know financial insecurity,

I KNOW THE LOSS OF SELF,

I KNOW ALL OF THESE THINGS- AND I SURVIVED THEM!!

Such true words and ones which all of us will recognise and understand. There are moments of sheer joy now, perfect calm and pride in small achievements but they are very rare and need to be treaured. They say that what doesnt kill you makes you stronger and it is true. Life is fragile, even for those who have no BI. Disabled is a word, not a label and it is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. We have lost our original self but hopefully, in time, we get to make friends with our new self. Hold on to that `survivor` word. Some are not as lucky as us. Have a wondrous Wednesday, all

Hi Huw

Lovely way to express what the survival is like. I'm just beginning to think of that as the first part of the journey and now I've registered with a volunteer agency because I can do things and I want to be useful.

that's the things that friends, family and work colleagues don't realise or see when they look at us .

Love it.

Would have one line to add, very much from my personnel experience :-

'I AM SO GRATEFUL TO ALL THOSE FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAUGES, & (of course!) HEADWAY, who have supported, helped and guided me through this arduous journey/battle/marathon, to where I am now! Not back to where I was, but happy with my self & in a much better place than I have been! :) '
