I found this very interesting Matt. I never believed in aromatherapy until my mother in law talked me into trying lavender oil to get a relaxing sleep after returning from hospital, post BI.

I'm going to head down to Holland and Barrett's on Monday to give it a try.

I'll let you know

Hi Mad,

Thanks, I would like to know how it works out for you.

I can't help but think that these things work differently on different people. My mum has used lavendar in the past, she used to spray her pillow with it and it would knock her out.

For me Lavendar doesn't seem to work. I don't know if that is anything to do with the BI getting in the way or because of how I am built.

It might also be the fact that she used a spray and I used ground Lavendar that was in a bag, I don't think that would make a huge difference though.

Different smells, scents, aromas, can be very good for memory so the article does make sense.

Yes I will update the thread Matt. The Lavander oil must be essential oil and I found the body shop to be the best, then Holand and Barratt of the high street stores

I love all these articles you find, Matt.

I could do to shove a plant up each nostril ! : ))

I used to have a 4 ft beauty of a Rosemary-the cruel Winter of minus 12 snuffed it a few years ago.The tiny blue flowers are delightful and the scent divine : )

I never bought another as I was so upset when it died and being a Mediterranean

plant, like many herbs which I lost that year , didn't want to risk it again. Perhaps it is time to be brave and try another : )

Hi Angela,

I'm glad you like the articles :). It is a kind thing to spread the word rather than hogging this precious info :).

That is a shame about the Rosemary plant you had dying off because of the extreme cold, sorry to hear of it.

I would be brave and get another, it doesn't just have to be for the memory (although that would be a great excuse) but it made you happy :).

Hi Matt that's interesting to know. I like rosemary on my roast potatoes but i didn't know that :-) I love the smell of different herbs. I've started a herb garden and have put them all by the garden swing in pots so that i can just sit and smell them when the wind blows on them- its a nice way to relax :-)

Hi Karen,

A herb garden, that's really good to know. Headway has got me into doing a little gardening of my own.

My Mum is mainly in charge of the garden but I have planted a few times before in pots and put them on our patio. Watering the garden is what I am best at :)

My local Headway had there own little cottage that had a nice kitchen and garden. They had gardening courses where the service user could do a spot of gardening.

Horticulture is good for the brain and very theraputic and you obviously get access to much needed fresh air :).

Sadly though, the rent was far too much for Headway to pay for and they had to move to another location.

The rent is far far cheaper for them to pay but there is no garden anymore :(.

You should put some herb plants in pots Matt-they usually sell them three for so much at the garden centre.I put three in one long plastic cheap planter so it didn't cost so much. They could do that at the new headway place if there's no garden there-especially the lavender with the lovely flowers :-)

We have got some herbs going... I think :).

To me, a plant is a plant and a herb is virtually the same thing haha.

Once at my Headway gardening session I was asked to dig out the weeds and I am usually wary of doing that cos for all I know I could be digging up a plant haha.

Speaking of weeds though, weeds are very beneficial. My mum grows dandelions and in the Summer she whizzes them up in a blender/nutri bullet with pear or apple and drink it, it's nice.

I think our local Headway is going to set up some potted plants at some point. If they cannot do that then they might have to hire a private allotment.

The thing is my local Headway own a small section of the Mountbatten centre, a leisure centre and I think it would be the owners there who decide if Headway can have potted plants there.

Rosemaric acid contained within rosemary is what's beneficial to memory and can be found in sage, a close relative of rosemary. Sage extracts have been shown to help cognition. You can buy sage leaf supplements online.
