I would like to hear if there is anyone out there who has recovered from double vision or vertigo after their BI. I am now 18 months since my accident, and get very wobbly when I'm standing. I expect this to last some more time, but would really like to know whether to hope for anything better! Thanks

The EN&T at the local hospital got rid of my vertigo, they did th Eply manouvre on me and it worked first time, brilliant.
I don't have double vision luckily that's something that can be tackled by the opthalmics department.
But, I'm still left with balance problems because the part of my brain that deals with balance was damaged, maybe it'll get better, maybe not but I'm learning to deal with it. Good luck xxxx Janet
My vertigo hasn't got much better, though its mostly fairly transient, so is fairly mild.
Janet have you had the Physo attempt to deal with your balance, i've had a fair bit of work to get rid of the zombie walk, which it almost has only coming back once very tired.
And that I can't balance if I can't see, which is taking longer but its getting there much to my supprise.
Hi Roger, internet dropped out so sorry it's taken a while, the balance is worse first thing in the morning and last thing before bed, or if I'm very tired. It has improved but I haven't seen physios since 2012, the rehab consultant is satisfied with my walk when he's seen me, so I'll just keep on, more of the same. I try not to use my walking stick now too, it's more trouble than it's worth.
But, like Danslatete, I still have a tendency to bounce off frames and knock things over, I have one toe on my right foot that I keep banging too, for some reason, really knackered the nail on it. Wouldn't care but it's not longer than the others or anything, just if I kick something I haven't seen I seem to do it with that toe.
My peripheral vision is not good so I think that's half the problem.
Was only laughing with my hubby this morning at my zombie walk when I first got up, I made the coffees this morning, he usually takes pity on me and gets them, but not today.
I'm only troubled with balance now when I'm tired or ill or worn out.
I still bounce off frames and knock things over not sure if that is balance or sight related.
I have prisms in my specs, I had injections into the eyes to the muscles behind the eyeball with botulinum to help double vision.
It wasn't completely fixed but did help a lot.
My vision is horrid When I'm tired or ill, when I was ironing this afternoon I'd been concentrating quite a whole and I ironed my fingers on the left hand. I don't know if I misjudged the distance or what because I can't actually remember seeing my hand there!
I can't have both hands in the air and my head back, like when you put washing out not the line because I fall over backwards!
Hi, I had the same symptoms and was unable to walk steadily and I was easily tired after a while. The double vision disappeared when they decided to close one eye with bandages to force the other one to look straight. It lasted around 3 weeks. Vertigo is due to unbalanced chemicals in your brain and the traumatic experience and there are some therapies to stop that symptom.Ask your GP to arrange a specialist appointment for the evaluation of these symptoms
hello. i have this! 16 months since my head injury. are you wearing an eye patch? i wear glasses so i've got a foggy patch over mine. when the glasses are off people generally have three and a half eyes unless they're particularly north-westerly!
my vertigo is huge. because i only use one eye i have no depth perception. everything looks so far away! to the point of flies buzzing nearby and thinking that they're birds in the distance. people know not to throw things at me these days ha.
stairs are particularly scary because they're everywhere so fear of falling is something that happens many times a day. made particularly hard because of my effected knees and pain i have when walking up and down. banisters are very important. i still haven't talked going down escalators...
are you going to get surgery? i've been getting interesting and very complex eye tests and they said they might book me in for it next appointment.
i also saw a young person who was trying misted contact lenses and was very unhappy. i said we could start a double vision club and she laughed
Hi Nutkin33 I to am 18 months into recovery, I find my balance and walking is much worse if I'm tired . My consultant at Kings College Hospital said last January that I didn't need my stick , but I find I do rely on it and feel safer using it , but I aim to be without it by next January when I see him again .
