Sorry David, only just looked in & seen your post...........you're probably on your way to see GP right now. But your GP is obviously on the ball where post SAH is concerned as blood pressure is the key player. I'm presuming yours was higher than is acceptable & he doesn't want to take any chances ?

It's good that your doctor is looking out for you and making the necessary moves to address the problem without delay. I had a gall bladder op. a year on from my SAH, and my blood pressure soared whilst in hospital so I was monitored constantly & given additional medication 'til it settled.

I'm sorry you're so anxious about it, but I hope that by now you're on your way to getting it sorted. Please get back to us when you can.

Regards Cat x

It's better to be safe, and have theses things checked, high blood pressure is clearly a risk factor.

Hi David. As cat3 says your BP was probably a bit high. Normal BP is 120/80, anything over 140 could indicate pre-hypertive (early signs of high blood pressure). Do you know what your BP reading was? Hope all goes well today. Try to stay as calm as you can under the circumstances, as this can give a higher reading too.

Hi only 1ridinghood

My BP was 190/90 my GP has changed my medication

I also asked him to change my pain relief medication

But he prescribed Tramadol I read the leaflet that came

With the Tramadol it says you should not take them if you

Have had a head injury or suffered pressure in the skull so

I cannot take them he has got me an emergency appointment

With the Neurosurgery department at my local hospital

Sounds like a good idea GP should of checked for counter indicators though.

Like RogerCMerrinan said your GP should have looked up the indicators before prescribing. Thank goodness you read the leaflet. Which hospital will you going too and how long do you think you have to wait? Are you still under a Consultant?

Yes lucky I read the leaflet Tramadol can cause an aneurysm

And my consultant is based at Queens Hospital Romford not

Easy to get to for me so local hospital is my only option and better

Then nothing and my appointment is next Tuesday the scary thing is

At this point I think I know more about the after effects of an aneurysm

And SAH then my GP so have to check what he is doing before I follow

His advice

Unfortunately, as the name suggest, General Practioner, your GP will usually have specialised in one area but will have a general knowledge of other conditions, therefore we become the expert. The usually have a template and will prescribe according to symptoms, neglecting ongoing complications of an existing condition. I go to a group practice and the GP I dealt with for the first year of my stroke was very dismissive of anything I brought up about fatigue, memory problems etc. I began to take charge after a year and change to another GP in the same practice. Who hopefully is more aware of the brain injury side of stroke. Also she knows where these patients should be directed. Good luck. Do some research. Let us know how things are progressing:)

Oh dear. I had an operation on my hip a bit over a year ago, and they gave me Tramadol. I never noticed anything about avoiding after a brain injury (or maybe it said within a certain time period?). Anyway, I used them for a couple of months, and they were fine, for me. But, follow whatever the instructions say, of course!

There are twelve GPs at my practice and, although I've seen the same one for over 30 years, since my SAH I've tried several others in an attempt to find one who's vaguely knowledgeable on brain injury. No luck so far, but I suggest you shop around in the hope of finding a more conscientious GP than you're seeing now. It's basic medicine checking for contra indications & I'm surprised at this level of incompetency.

Good thing you were a step ahead of him David. Good luck for Tues.

Thank you cat3

I phoned my GP surgery to point out that the pain relief my

GP prescribed was not suitable for some one who has suffused

A brain injury and requested another type of pain relief so he has

Prescribed me paracetamol he may as well have given me a box of

Smarties as he well knows, I now know I will have to find an alternative

GP at another practice not good at all

Oh dear.............why does anyone prescribe paracetamol; it's really just a placebo. Sorry you're struggling to find proper support David but hope your BP is now under better control.
