Yes I watched that episode as well. There are suddenly so many programmes on TV at the moment, emphasisng whether intentionally or not - the effects ofvarious injuries and operations, but many people will watch them without the impact registering with them - its just tv - but you have to have 'been there' yourself and that makes you so aware again..
It can be difficult suddenly finding yourself re-living a bad moment in your life, I am so pleased that it was such a good outcome for you and your loved ones Vimto.
Watching the scene unfold really nipped me , my own feelings will never go away just so glad there was a Happy out come to the people i knew . And thanks some times find it hard to talk about the past.x
it sounds like it was a better outcome for those you 'knew' than it was for you Vimto, so yes I understand, now, that it's hard to talk about the past while trying to make a new future.
Just keep coming back to these forum posts if and when you get bad moments - sometimes, no often - it helps to let go and get things off your mind rather than bottle up. S xx
I have not enjoyed or agreed with the Emmerdale story line on brain tumours, in fact I've found it insulting. I have however been deeply touched by the Coronation St storyline involving Nick and found that a very true comparable likeness to my situation. Tonights Emmerdale left me feeling up in the air, how could such a quick decision be made about the life of such a young child, and without consideration of her father's feelings and needs. In 2006 my partner went into a coma for 4 days. Wired up with iv lines and oxygen mask I was limited on what physical contact I could have with him, so took to massaging his feet and legs every 2 hours, he came around for a day before he slipped back into a coma and died. Watching Emmerdale tonight all I kept thinking was 'please make physical contact with her'. A very sad story line and in my view not well written. Emmerdale seems to write fun farce storylines but is on the wrong planet when it comes to dealing with real situations. Poorly researched I feel.
yes you are right about not well thought out in terms of 'reality' but not many soaps are. I could certainly equate with Nick and Leanne's situation in Corrie - better researched but, bearing in mind they are all 'soaps' don't you find that where one leads, the others follow? The medical tv serials are doing much the same as well, Holby, Doctors, Casualty, East Enders et al
Its true though we only need to see for a few moments, something on TV whether well produced or not, that brings back some of our past memories, albeit good and/or bad ones. I welcome though any programmes that will inform and advise 'ordinary viewers' about the effects of brain injuries, which I know are different for many of us.
But I and so many others here have lost friends and/or family who didn't understand them - for me my husband (we'd separated 5 weeks b4 by BI) - but more so my 2 sons (in 40's) won't communicate with me now they just do not understand or believe, I don't think, in or about any of the changes in me and my personality. I asked them all to look at the Headway site which I found myself on the internet last year, and none of them want to know or understand. Ex's attitude, when i asked him once if he's looked, was a mumbled, briefly, its for down and outs!
I don't watch any soaps they play with your mind and try to influence somebody elses ideas and values on the people who watch them, to me and a lot of others they are negative so must be avoided at all costs.
I also felt 'very lucky' watching Emmerdale last night Vimto. Our 20 year old daughter was in a coma for three and a half weeks last year following a car accident. It brought all the emotions and memories flooding back of how we would talk to her and tell her all that days events. We more or less lived at her bedside. I did however get upset at the programme when they turned off the breathing machine and proceed to just wheel her away, surely that's not how they would do it, just leaving the poor father stood there alone. Oh well I suppose until you have been through such an ordeal you will never know how horrible and life changing it is. Luckily our daughter, after a further 8 weeks of rehab went on to make a great recovery in time. Best wishes to you. Jo xx
