If you are asking does anyone have balance problems following TBI then count me as a yes.

I think balance and spacial awareness combine to affect my walking...I cannot walk straight and always seem to veer to one side.. I don't realise I am doing it until a companion comments that I have bumped into them or am forcing them into the road or into a wall/hedge.

I also find my balance is affected if there is a lot of noise and movement around me...not sure of that is simply overload but it is very unpleasant.

What problems are you having specifically? Maybe someone can offer some ideas that might help?

I had problems for ages. My TBI happened nearly eight years ago. I had to be off work sick for 18 months, and for ages, at the station there, I *had* to walk down at the side, where I could reach the bannisters. Now, I always walk down the middle of the wide stairs - just because I *can*. Likewise, I always stand on one leg, while I am putting my knickers and trousers on. I used to have to sit on the bed. Not anymore. I do it as a sort of confirmation: "See, I *have* got better!" I am still far from perfect, but I have got a lot better. And some of the improvement is still going on (slowly) now, I hope.

other half has had this since his TBI. His Neurologist suggested reducing caffine intake (you give anything a try dont you?) but i also read (on this site)that it could be the pituatry gland that is affected so he has scan next week to check this out. Hormone imbalance has also been mentioned. He was on some medication for it but did'nt make the slightest difference so looks like everyone is waiting for the magic cure! Good luck

huge,and making life a misery,sympathise deeply ;(

yes....i was in a car crash 8-8-13, rear ended, car demolished. knocked out, amnesia no idea who i was, and 'bad' concussion. none of it is getting better.in fact worse. i grope for words i cannot recall, fall over, wobble about, arms out like a penguin head hurts use ice packs, nausea all the time, head down bending is worse dizzy, feels like i have an helicopter in my head as i rise back, i write letters upside down and backwards by hand, but i can type OK. amnesia at least once a day: huuum where i am? who i is? freak out. mostly confined to bed, so i'll see and recognise an item and it stops, currently here in USA with American husband. doctors useless, do not know what kind of docs i need to see feel so adrift and helpless

I HAD A TBI 27 YEARS, GOING ON 28, AND I STILL HAVE BALANCE PROBLEMS. I SEVERELY TWISTED MY BRAIN STEM, WHICH ONES THAT DO THAT RARELY EVER WALK AGAIN, SO I WILL TAKE MY BALANCE PROBLEM, ANY DAY.
