Hypothyroid

I am a 65 year old male. In 1989 I was diagnosed as having over-active thyroid (Hyperthyroidism). I was placed on medication (Carbimazole) for a number of years. Then in 1992/3 I had radioactive iodine treatment! In six months' time I was asked to take a second dose of the radioactive iodine. I refused and went on using diet, exercise and other natural products to help with my condition. I was fine until I started feeling tired easily, had painful joints, racing heartbeats, palpitations etc. in 2005/6. Was then diagnosed as being hypothyroid and given Levothyroxine. I have been on this since. Dosage started from 65mcg and now I am on 175mcg! I am still with all the symptoms of hypothyroid; pemanent tiredness/fatigue, cold hands and feet, low heart rate, difficulty in thinking and remembering things especially names, PALPITATIONS. I have been a vegetarian since 1974 and I don't drink nor smoke. My weight has been fine. I have not personally been given results of my blood thyroid tests so I don't the levels of my TSH, iron, iodine etc.

As a point of interest my wife was diagnosed as having hypothyroid ( 4 years ago) and my eldest daughter is also hyperthyroid. Both are receiving medications.

Thank you

Daniel

Working with an amenable endocrinologist to add in t3 or NDT to your dose may help you sir! No promises though. Research those two hormonal medications and a whole host of sites will appear to equip you with info :) x
