sore mouth: hi can any one tell me if a... - Gluten Free Guerr...
sore mouth
yes....as a matter of fact, not only a sore mouth, inside, but also sore, cracked peeling lips also...one of my first symptoms was the sore lips (4 years now)...now, while I am preparing for the biopsies, and continueing to eat regularly, in the last month or so, is the soreness in my mouth...for me, it is a more advanced symptom....also, for me is the dermatitis h.but on my face, not anywhere else, which is also VERY sore...check the internet for gluten in your toothpaste, that is where I also found a source....
barny have you been taking any medications reccently, especially antibiotics? If yes, then this can sometimes kill off the good bacteria in your mouth an leave you with a sore tongue and mouth.
FionaGFG posted this re toothpaste:
The official line is that all toothpastes in the UK are gluten free. However, toothpastes often contain strong flavourings and other ingredients that can irritate the mouth i.e. recently I used Aquafresh after using a natural Bicarb of soda toothpaste for ages. Suddenly I had a few tiny ulcers on my tongue from using the Aquafresh which had a much stronger minty flavour than my normal brand. That doesn't mean I was 'glutened' it simply means that toothpaste didn't agree with me.
Q. Does Aquafresh® contain any gluten?
A. Aquafresh® toothpaste does not contain gluten.
In a response to a request, Glaxo SmithKline (manufacturer of several brands) replied:
"whilst gluten is not an ingredient in the products, we cannot 100% guarantee that before the raw materials reach our factories, that they have not been in contact with gluten. Although this is extremely unlikely, we are unable to confirm this 100% as we, GSK, are not able to observe this part of the process."
So technically their products are gluten free, but as they can offer no guarantees I would use with caution.
Hi Barny
Toothpaste containing sodium lauryl sulphate can cause mouth ulcers. Perhaps look for some toothpaste in H & B or a Health Food shop. You can get also get SLS free toothpaste on line.
aww thanks penel i will do xxxxgoin in hb 2 moz will look ty
I started having a swelling of the upper lip and sore gums, I then noticed it was usually after eating fresh chillies or drinking red wine. My dentist ended up sending me for a biopsy, result came back as having leukoplakia, apparently an auto immune disorder. I think my immune system is already compromised with cd, not stopped me having the odd glass or two of red wine!!!
this range of toothpastes kingfishertoothpaste.co.uk/ are natural and contain no dodginess and are available from Holland and Barrett (and others)
I was told that my sore mouth, lips and tongue were due to vitamin and mineral deficiencies from being coeliac. I don't think it is that I've had gluten (I hadn't) it tends to be spicy foods or too many tomatoes that trigger it - sometimes.
ty jacks i thought it was as havnt had it since i had had spicy curry and night be4 tomatoe chilli also toms do set me off thanks again xx
