Hi JaneH, thers is a link between RA (Rheumatiod arthritis) and coeliac and I believe that they can share the same genetic path?

The coeliac that I know who have RA have prob's with their ankles the most.

In case you are interested and this is such a valid question which affects many coeliac, there are a few associated auto-immune disorders with CD, Diabeties, Lupus, Addisons, hyperthyroid.

Many coeliac also more prone to suffer from Osteopeenia, osteoporosis and micrscopic colitis.

And lactose intolerance and fructose intolerance, are also common amongst coeliac.

I think it can be helpful to know that there is a link between all these and CD as it can reassure others and help them realise that they are not alone. And this is not a comprehensive list.

Lastly I'm sorry if you have arthriris as thats very painful and debilitating.

Thanks, Jerry.

Mine is osteo - arthritis, so maybe it's not linked. It makes you wonder, though, particularly with the osteoporosis link, doesn't it?

I just listed the common ones that I could think of and have just done a web search and there is a link it also mention PA (Pernicious anaemia) which is also common in coeliac.

So I am glad that you asked as I wasn't aware of Osteo-arthritis and yes it is linked to osteoporosis.

If you're interested please see this link:

I often joke that coeliac seem to have a twitchy immune system, I know mine does!

Hi you have exactly the same symptoms as me. My children were diagnosed first and I was diagnosed with CD in 2007 but with hindsight I had the same symptoms as my children when I was a child. I was diagnosed with hypothyrodism in 2009 and osteoarthritis in 2010. After first being diagnosed with GF I felt great being on the diet but with all the other stuff I feel lousy most of the time now.

As I read all these comments it makes me realise how much more I need from the medical profession -.... like taking the holistic approach and looking at the whole me! Dietitian first advised to avoid gluten so self diagnosed,it gave great improvements of symptoms initially, but some symptoms keep returning.

I have osteo arthritis --- total knee replacement 6 months ago and waiting for the other to be done, (most joints give me some problem).i now have a dairy intolerance, and by taking dairy out I get fewer migraines, less tiredness, but still have some bloating and windI

I now also have problems with candida and hairloss - just to add to the mix!!!

My GP is trying to treat each symtom as it arises, and is now pulling her hair out!!!

Never are all these problems been put together and links made! Who do I need to see to get this done? I do believe my GP is ready to send me anywhere!!!

Oh dear. I sympathise about the pain, headaches and tiredness. I can't say that going gluten free restored my energy. it's so hard to deal with a range of different symptoms and, I agree, it would really help if there was a more holistic approach.

The responses I've had to my question make me think I may speak to my GP and see if he can find out more about some of these links.

Good luck

Jane

You could see a Registered Nutritional Therapist who will do exactly that - look at the whole you! I'm about to embark on an 18month training MSc and diploma to become one so have looked into it thoroughly. Find them through here bant.org.uk/bant/jsp/practi...

to get someone appropriately qualified - the course I will do is 18 months full time postgraduate training following a Biological Science degree which I already have. I became interested after consulting a nutritional therapist for my gluten intolerance symptoms (though i didn't know what they were then!!) 2 years ago. Expect to pay about £50 for an initial 60-90 min consultation and a personalised action plan for you I think. Good luck.

Hi all, I am new to this site and found it very interesting. I was diagnosed coeliac 1992, the following year approx diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis. I am interested to see if anyone else has PS as well as being GF. I have often wondered if there is a link with the 2? I know all about feeling lousy so can empathise. All I want is to feel well. And to top it all i am menopausal!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must say that the ranges available are much better these days but it would be nice if eateries would follow suit. I always find it very frustrating eating out.
