Is something wrong with the site? I just lost a long blog post.

Hi Hollyann, firstly I am sorry that you have lost a Blog post especially if it was a long one as this is very frustrating.

The reason that this happens is once you have written your Blog and pressed the submit button there is a timer this is to prevent spam but sometimes it works against us so for instance if your internet is running a bit slow (this can happen for various reasons) and if it's a busy time of day so there is a lot of internet traffic then your blog gets timed out and disappears. Now sometimes by pressing the back button you can resubmit it. The best way to stop being timed out becoming a problem is to cut and paste the Blog before pressing the submit button. I do this whilst posting sometimes if it all seems a bit slow. I know this is of no consolation to you now but should stop it being a problem in the future.

We will also see if my reply is OK So please try again and if the problem persists then please say and we will get the Health unlocked techies to take a look.

Hi Jerry.

Yes, very frustrating, but it didn't seem to time out. It seemed to post, so I closed the window and didn't think about it until I looked for the blog later and it wasn't there. I notice the last blog was posted 21 hours ago. Is it usual for there to be no blog activity for such a long time?

Hi Hollyann, I thought it was a bit quiet on here so lets see what other responses we get to your query as others will hopefully say if they have had an issue.

Normally I'd let Fiona who owns GFG or Irene who is admin deal with this but Fiona has asked for help after suffering from a a large central prolapsed disc and being told not to spend too much time sitting in front of her PC. And Irene has health issues and is undergoing hospital tests herself. So as I run a couple of websites myself and I get this happen to me occasionally on my own sites I thought I'd try and help as it's even more frustrating when a query is ignored.

So what I will do is report to the HU team that you have had this issue and they will look into it. Because it is not in any ones interests that posts are being lost.

And I would try and post the blog again and just to be on the safe side copy it first. And thanks for raising this.

No probs. Nice of you to help out when everyone is under the weather.

I've had this problem before and it's hard to assess what's happening. Sometimes I can post replies but no blog, or blog but no question. I usually do copy before I hit the submit button, but I haven't had any probs recently, so I just forgot.

I'll post again when I have time to do it all again.

Just to say I've reported this fault to the HU team. I think that it's a good opportunity to let members of GFG be aware of the trials and tribulations of Fiona and Irene who started GFG. And it is a support forum so I am only to glad to help if I can. It's also a good reminder to other members of GFG to copy any Blogs first so this doesn't happen to them.

I know that it's a bore having to write the Blog out again and I'm sorry about that. And lets see what the HU team say and they may want to contact you directly.

Just to say, that I too have had this happen several times in the past both to blogs and comments. I copy and then submit - then if I lose it I copy and paste. It sometimes also happens to comments which can be equally annoying if they are long replies. So I would say always copy - then submit either the blog or the comment. Before closing down the page that you are on, click the Home button to appear in another window as an absolute check to make sure that your blog or comment is there - then close down the actual window that you are in.

Whenever anyone experiences problems, the IT team here on HU are really helpful so just click on the green Feedback button on the right-hand side of the screen and advise them what is happening so that they are able to fix the problem - they are always grateful to be told of occurring problems.

God advice as usual and a good tip about the feedback button, now we had all noticed how quiet you were and assumed you'd gone off with your shovel...

Well Jerry, I started with my shovel but we've had that much rain today that I've had to jump into my digger! Lol!

Ta guys - it could also be server issues as HU now has lots of groups and is trying to upgrade their servers. Do use the feedback button and let them know. I'll also raise it tomorrow to them.

As Jerry said the best tip & this goes for any blogging is to copy your post first (or actually write it in Word or something similar first) and then post. If I told you how many times I'd had this happen as well you wouldn't believe me ; )

Hope it gets solved soon.

Hi all,

Just wanted to acknowledge that I've read this thread and we are aware of this issue. Please know that we are constantly making improvements to HU to make the user experience as simple and smooth as possible. We appreciate you bearing with us as we work to make these changes.

As was said, use the Feedback tab when you need to! (If it's a technical problem, choose 'Problem' in the drop-down menu). Or you can always get in touch with me directly :)

Best,
