Hi Angelbelle - onions are part of the FODMAP group of foods which can cause problems. Pop FODMAP in the search bar to see previous info on this. :-)

Yes, I do as well. I do not suffer from bloating but am in the loo all the time. Garlic does the same, but I have a problem with my bowel anyway and these vegetables ferment in your body. I follow the FODMAP diet as mentioned by Irene.

Have you had a problem with any other vegetables?

Sorry , On re reading your response I see you mention other veg. I don't recall other veg upsetting my tum but you have set me thinking because I had made some soup with an onion, leeks and potato and that's what caused my problem leading to my initial query.

Angelbelle you might find this link to our Pinterest page useful. It's our FODMAP board which has some infographs showing FODMAP foods and several recipes you can use.

When I was avoiding all alliums to ease my baby's colic, I used nigella (aka black onion seeds). They make a sauce, soup, etc. taste oniony, but they're not part of the onion family at all, so I guess would be fine by FODMAP standards. Might need a healthfood shop to find them, but they're not expensive.
