Can anyone please tell me if they know whether gallo arborio rice and TRS fine polenta are safe for coeliacs to eat?

I have been eating risotto and the bloating is horrendous so now having doubts whether it is safe to eat. Am struggling to find out from the web whether these products are safe.

Hi Jan, TRS products are packed in a factory that also handle wheat and gluten products:

healthysupplies.co.uk/coars...

and this is what it says about it's gf status:

Ingredients

Corn.

A gluten & wheat free grain. Note: Packed in an non-gluten free environment. May contain traces of seeds or nuts.

Also you can contact Gallo and ask them for the status of their rice products. Traditional risotto is gluten free but it's always worth checking first.

I hope you find what's causing your bloating and hope that you feel better soon.

Thanks Jerry for your reply. Have emailed gallo about the rice. Will dump the TRS polenta. Hope at some point I can find a fine polenta which is uncontaminated.

Hey Jan, I eat Gallo Arboria Rice no problems, and I'm like the proverbial canary in a mine so I reckon it's safe for coeliacs. There's nothing on the packaging. It's not the stock cubes your using is it?

Merchant Gormet Polenta is GF. I get this in Sainsbury, but I always forget which aisle they put it in.

I eat Gallo arboria rice and am fine too. Rice is processed in a very different way to grains so I can't see why there should be any contamination issues. The polenta could be causing the problems...

If rice and polenta are causing problems try buckwheat and quinoa.

Hello,

I called Gallo Arborio a few weeks ago about their risotto rice and they told me it is processed in a factory which handles wheat.

I bought some GF Polenta 500 g from a local health shop. The make is Infinity Foods Organics, Speciality Flours. Not sure if that is of any help? I was a little surprised at the price, £3.99, but it is an expensive shop.

Thanks to you all for your replies. I had already changed the stock to kallo so I don't think it could be that. Lesson learned for me to be even more vigilant with my food choices and to research food more carefully especially as lots of things don't mention the possibility of contamination on the labels!!
