itchy bumpy rash on elbow
Could be. I had quite big ones there for a few years prior to diagnosis of DH. Originally diagnosed as psoriasis then ezcema. This was probably the first place they appeared, then I had them on backs of hands joints, back, forehead, legs ...
Hi glutenhater, that's exactly how mine became obvious: seriously itchy then inflamed rash on left elbow for which I got antibiotics. Then I had five years of iritis in my left eye, unexplained, now seven years later dermatitis herpetiformis confirmed. Doctors have not linked any of it but I've had no bother with my eye or elbow since going glugenfree.
Try following the GAPS diet or the specific carbohydrate diet (SCD)
These diets help the gut to heal and can repair your intestinal damage - a major. The skin conditions and autoimmunity is caused by leaky damaged gut and bad gut flora - antibiotics are a short term solution and only cause or lead to worsening of the condition due to changing your gut flora balance.
All chronic skin conditions can be traced to gut problems.
In my experience.
sorry my words are muddled today - having a bit of a bad brain day!
sorry what is GAPS diet ? I have the rash on scalp, round the nose and left eye.
I just know it is Caeliac related but i am in the process of changing doctor.
If after about 6 weeks or so of being very strict with you GF diet, the itchy blisters disappear, then it probably is DH
Ask to see a dermatologist. I had an itchy rash and my coeliac consultant said it looked like DH and referred me to a dermatologist who I am seeing in two weeks. The spots have gone now, after being on gf diet since Nivember. She referred me January. She still recommends going though incase a skin biopsy is still possible. Fyi, I have had itchy elbows and knees for donkeys years and it was always put down to excema but this could also possibly been the starting of DH so it could have been in my system for years and years as was the CD which was diagnosed as IBS about fifteen years ago or more. Get it checked and a biopsy will confirm yay or nay. Best to be safe than sorry. X
hey, i too get this itchy bumpy rash on my elbow(s) i have been gluten free for almost 2yrs now, but whenever it flares up its out of the blue, no contamination as i am very strict to avoid this... is boggles me..
