B12 of 135 : Got my result back 135 b1... - Gluten Free Guerr...
B12 of 135
Did the doctor say it was low?
It's hard for us to comment without knowing the units the result came in, but I do know my levels were in pmol/L, and that a result below 145pmol/L is deficient.
Has your doctor prescribed anything for you? I also wonder if you've ever had thyroid checked, as there are quite a few symptoms in common with coeliac disease and around 75% of thyroid sufferers have gluten intolerance. Thyroid issues also cause low B12.
Only spoke on phone to her she said it was 135 got app next week she mention injections hopefully no more next week, my thyroid was normal I get diorreah a lot she said it's not getting absorbed because of this but dont no why I get diorreah and she said celiac was negative 🤷♀️ thanks for replying
Sounds like they think it's low too.
Thyroid can also cause IBS symptoms, so it's worth looking into it.
Although coeliac test came back negative, you might benefit from a trial without gluten in case you have non-coeliac gluten sensitivity. I'd also keep a food diary for a little bit, to see if anything triggers you to feel worse.
Doctors will say that your thyroid is normal if your TSH comes back anywhere within range. Unfortunately, the's entirely inadequate. In the first place, labs set up ranges based on 95% of the folks who present for testing. Doctors don't usually waste a patient's time and money sending him or her to the lab for testing when the patient has no signs or symptoms of the disease whatsoever. So the tests for thyroid function were normed on sick people. In the U.S., if your TSH is above 3, you might be started on thyroxine medication. In the UK, you have to hit 10 for them to give you a shot at treatment.
The other thing that doctors should test are your levels of Free T4 (the storage hormone) and Free T3 (the active hormone). If you have symptoms of hypothyroidism, but your TSH is within range (notice I did not say "normal"), looking at the levels of the thyroid hormones will help fill out the picture. thyroid.org/thyroid-functio...
TSH is not a thyroid hormone. It is created by the Pituitary and sent to the thyroid to tell it to make more thyroid hormones. The full name is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. The higher the level of TSH the bigger nudge that is given to the thyroid to make more hormones.
I’m like a stuck record (showing my age ...) on this. I had decades of symptoms and years of negative coeliac bloods but extensive villous atrophy and def coeliac when biopsied. It IS possible to be coeliac and negative on bloods. Persist for a referral to a gastro who should then biopsy to rule it out (or not). Good luck.
Thank you , at gp today hopefully find out what she is going to do,
