I hope someone out there maybe able to advise - I'm type 2 diabetic and over the past couple of months - my doctor said I was aneamic when I had my yearly check up for diabetes. I was sent for the camera both ends I think it's called an gastro endoscopy They did find a small growth that was benign thankfully so no further action was required. He checked my b12 at my request as taking metformin for my diabetes can affect your b12 this was 277 quite low from what i have read - he refused to give me any b12. In the weeks that followed I have now been getting quite severe palputations and therefore he has now sent me to the heart unit at the hospital to have a tape recording of my heart while walking about for a 24hr period it came back showing that my heart at very minor intervals was beating very fast! He has now refered me to cardiology and in the interim given me the smallest dose possible of a beta-blocker called Bisoprolol 1 25mg. I have also have terrible soreness and aching in my upper body like in my joints or muscles which my doctor did seem to know what if may have been - I could not do anything on the 2 days i had this aching or whatever it was not had it since. Could the heart palputation issue be b12 related or does it seem as it was taped over 24rhrs that the evidence shows it is my heart ? Any comments would be appreciated.

On Healthunlocked there is another group called Pernicious Anaemia Society. If you repost your query there they may be able to help re low B12 symptoms. Also include the normal range from your blood test as it varies where your blood tests were done.
Hi - have you had your thyroid function checked? All your symptoms including palps, low b12 and aches etc could all be caused by hypothyroid. Check out the thyroid UK group on healthunlocked for more info and what to ask GP for.
Hi startagaingirl thanks for replying yes I am taking levethroxyine 125mg as was prescribed a couple of years after I got diabetics is hypothroid an under or over active thyroid or something else ?
Hi - hypo means undeactive and the levo treatment means that is what you have. With your current symptoms I would suspect that you are undermedicated with the nutritional deficiencies that are almost universal with hypo.
Unfortunately it appears that the vast majority of doctors know very little about the thyroid and hence poor treatment is extremely common. I would suggest the best thing to do is to ask your gp's receptionist for a print out of all thyroid blood tests (you are entitled to these by law), join the thyroid group on healthunlocked, post a copy of your results along with a short history and current symptoms and the many expert patients will give you advice on what to do next to feel better.
I have personally been helped to feel dramatically better by the group with my own auto-immune hypo.
Thank you very much for your sound advice - I have been to see my doc last Friday and insisted that he give me my results and to tell me what blood tests that he has done recently as he only tells u what he thinks u need to know!!! Its very annoying as i have asked many many times to my amazement he printed off all my results and I mean all of them since joined the surgery well what can I say what dies that say about him. He then said "u will be able to set up your own spreadsheet now"! Sarcastic person - but at least I have all my info. I will certainly do what u have advised on Monday as I need to go through all the pages! Thank you so much for your reply xx
Good for you! Doesn't it feel good to regain a bit of control over your own health? I look forward to seeing your results in the thyroid forum. You are looking for all you can find from tsh, ft4, ft3, TpoAb, TgAb, folate , ferritin, vit d and vit b12. It would be unusual if you had them all, but don't worry, post what you have. Make sure and include all the ranges, for instance tsh 2.9 (0.4-4.2), as labs differ and it is very difficult to interpret results without these.
I would definitely recommend you look at the websites about B12 deficiency which is vastly misunderstood by doctors and can affect the heart. Particularly watch the videos on the first site below:
thank you for your reply and I am going to watch the videos right now once again thank you very much as I need to find out if it's b12 or really problems with my heart. Xx
