I have swollen submandibular glands. They are tender at times and very painful, but the swelling, tenderness, and pain eventually go away. Anyone else having this?

I sometimes get this, usually mild though. GP suggested it is probably a virus.

Yes, mine are mostly swollen but do vary. Waiting for a specialist oral medicine ultrasound in case it is a sign of Sjogren's Syndrome. Also have dry eyes, mouth and other signs but these all improved when I went gluten free. Best wishes

I was ruled out for Sjogrens Syndrome. I had a lip biopsy which is considered the gold standard for ruling this autoimmune disease out. Make sure they do that. I then went to a different rheumatologist who I found more competent bc the previous one "assumed" I had Sjogrens. I was then diagnosed with RA from my current rheumy. I had always assumed the swollen glands is from RA, something the rheumy has already stated. I had an ultrasound and it confirms they are huge and have gotten bigger over the years. I am going for a sialendoscopy in December at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. The doctor stated that he can clear out all the junk that has backed up my glands. He stated that since I have RA I dont produce saliva like someone without it, causing the saliva to get backed up in the glands. I also have do.have dry mouth but I believe this is from medications.

Thanks for that - my first rheum said eyes not dry enough and as healing so badly didn't think lip biopsy was a good idea. 2nd rheum said antiphospholipid syndrome and 3rd says not but wants eye and oral checks to see if 'non-standard Sjogren's'! So may have biopsy depending on results. I really hope the junk clearing helps you feel better. Best wishes
