I've made soup a handful of times over the years with a pan on the hob and then blitzing with a stick blender. Results were ok, a bit hit and miss, but I can't say I enjoyed the process enough to do it regularly. Jumping forward I found we were spending a fair bit on fresh supermarket soup which my husband tends to have everyday for lunch.
I did some research on soup makers and then a friend rang out of the blue and started to tell me about her new gadget and how great it was. Soup in 20mins, easy process. I was convinced and bought one which offers smooth or chunky soup settings and smoother maker option.
It's fab. A quick peel and chop of veg, addition of stock and some extras e.g. garlic, chilli, ginger, lid on and 20mins later fab tasty soup. The SM cooks the veg then blitzes for a smooth soup. You can also have a clear soup with chunky veg. Easy to clean as well. Now I'm no longer ditching veg that have gone over - they are chopped and turned into soup. The SM makes large quantities but surplus is easily portioned and frozen.

Hi Irene like you i buy the fresh soups at the supermarket as i love it for my dinner but it can be costly, i have also made my own soup in the blender with left overs-i thought wow!! when i saw yiur new contraption, i want one!! I am now going to purchase one, hubby doesnt know he will be flashing the plastic when he comes home from work.x😊😊
Home made soup is so much healthier than the store bought stuff. Rmichelle I surely hope your daughter is fine we can only try and stay positive in that some of our health issues are not passed on to our precious children!
Yes, I agree, mine is still much-used even though it's been overtaken in the "best kitchen gadget" stakes (in my kitchen at least) by my Instant Pot. My favourite recipe, which sounds odd & won't be to everyone's taste, is Celeriac and Pear. I surprised myself by liking this one! It's available on the recipe website of a well known supermarket, I can supply the link if people want it but I wasn't sure it would be allowed.
I'm a huge Instant Pot fan too. Initially it was to replace a slow cooker with a cracked inner bowl, and to "cure" me of my fear of pressure cookers. Not only is it not at the back of any cupboard, it is permanently on the worktop and in use at least 6 days out of seven, one way or another.
The soup button turns all manner of leftovers and sad veg into an excellent lunch in no time at all, plus of course it has the ability to make real stock in a fraction of all that simmering time.
You sound much like me, IP permanently out as it's always being used. I must say, it's improved my cooking repertoire & ensures we can eat healthy gluten free meals even after a long day at work. And chicken stock made with the leftovers from a Costco chicken is amazing!
