Hey there, just about to crack open a tin of beans, and the dreaded F word showed up. Does corn flour contain gluten?

Hi,

Cornflour doesn't normally contain gluten.

I eat baked beans all the time. My favourite brands are Heinz, Aldi and Waitrose's own. I've found that all these ones have a good track record for stating they are gluten free.

Enjoy!

you're safe there, no gluten in Cornflour, aka Maize. Lidl's ownbrand are very good, they also stock "Simply" which I found even nicer.

Be careful. Each person has their own reactive foods. Modified maize starch should be GF. As should cornflour be GF.

Hi I can only eat Heinz beans. Any item containing modified starch I can't eat, Modified corn flour yes. Very strange and confusing. Assume the starch contains some form of gluten. I googled the modified definition recently and apparently it's modified by thickening it so sauces don't go thin when reheated. Sounds to me thickening it would include some type of gluten product with the exception of corn flour. Good luck.

I think it may depend on source, I once heard UK cornflour did not have gluten, not sure about USA, ( South Africa cornflour maizena ok.).... so I usually stick to those that say gluten free. either on product or Coeliac UK sites.
