It can all be a bit of a shock! Especially if you dont consider you had any relevant symptoms.
Normally people get the bloods done then have the biopsy to confirm, so in that respect you are the other way round. You could ask your gp if he wants you to go gluten free yet.
There are lots of facebook forums which can and do give advice for newbies such as yourself. It can be daunting it has to be said, but it does get easier.
At least by following a gluten free diet the condition is treatable and mendable.
Next step will most likely be seeing a dietician and getting a dexa scan to make sure it hasnt yet affected your bones.
Ask at your surgery if they are still doing gf foods on prescription( many areas have stopped, but some still offer it).
Two companies will send out gluten free goodie boxes of samples. Glutafin. And. Juvela. Look online and send them emails.
You will now need to get rid of or not use yourself( if you are in a family group) certain things which can 'contaminate' you and your food. Firstly the toaster, then you need to consider cooking impliments wooden chopping boards spoons. Then a massive cupboard cleaning session!
Lots to take in!!
Do consider joining Coeliac uk - lots of info and can put you in touch with local groups. They send welcome pack with book of safe products, money off vouchers and diet info. Also an app to use whilst shopping which helps tell you what is safe and not. There are other free downloads available too.
Also in answer to your other post, re brain. Ask for a full blood to be done including b12, folate, ferritin, vit d, as many coeliacs have added problems of not absorbing certain vitamins and minerals which can also cause 'fog'. --- lots of research for you to get your head around. Do not take any supplements if you havent already been offered these tests as by doing so it can mask a deficiency.
I'm a little confused about what you meant when you talked about the spoons and wooden chopping boards .. do i need to replace my plates and spoons and everything??
And what did u mean when you talked about a surgery..
thank u so much i hope you can answer my questions ❤️
Things which are made of wood can hold gluten in/on them as they cannot be washed in the same way as ceramic or plastic things which is why it is recomended that you replace them.
Surgery is another name for the place where you see the doctor.
Here's the Coeliac website.
Lots of recipes on line or in cook books. Most restaurants offer gluten free options. Good luck.
If you keep your kitchen clean and all items used for cooking and eating then you should be alright. Avoid preparing, cooking your foods where non-coeliacs may do thier food because of cross contamination. Also be aware that there are different levels of sensitivity to gluten. Most will tolerate a gluten free diet some will still get symptoms if eating gf ( 20 PPM gf ) ingredients. Once diagnosed it's all trial and error along with elimination.
