Experiences with antibiotics

Hi,

Has anyone here cured themselves of food intolerances with antibiotics?

My health practitioner is only concerned about limiting my diet but I would like to find a cure.

Thanks

Antibiotics kill bacteria. Why do you think they would cure you of food intolerances?

I've read that people have developed food intolerances after having a stomach bug.

My symptoms keep getting worse, it feels like I have a lingering bacterial overgrowth that needs treating.

I'm not keen on debating any further, just curious if anyone has tried antibiotics as a possible cure.

OK, I see what you mean. One of the problems with antibiotics is that they kill off both good and bad bacteria and it seems possible that antibiotic use may cause or make SIBO worse. You could look into improving your good gut bacteria which hopefully would improve your symptoms: cut out sugar and refined starches, increase probiotics and prebiotics.

Perhaps have a look at The Autoimmune Protocol by Sarah Ballantyne which has details of how to improve conditions through what you eat. Chris Kressed also has some information on this topic.

Good luck sorting this out. You may find it useful to look at 'alternative' medical advice.

My understanding is that antibiotics tend to make things worse because they kill off the good bacteria in the gut. I have heard of some people eating things like sauerkraut to rebuild healthy gut bacteria. It can be helpful. It doesn't cure celiac disease though, because that is an autoimmune condition. So far no one has discovered a cure for any autoimmune conditions.

I was just eating sauerkraut a few days ago to test for suspected histamine intolerance and I was thinking my other gut symptoms seemed better.

Very interesting to hear that, I will keep eating it daily. Thanks.

It's only good if it isn't pasteurised.

It does not not sound likely - if it was that easy surely everyone would try it?

Hi I was diagnosed with Dyboisis and went on vancomycin, if you have this condition it can help get rid of the bacteria that causes food intolerance.

Yes, this is what I'm thinking. I've had a glucose breath test for SIBO but it was negative.

I'll probably try the antibiotics anyway, it's only a 10 day course. Thanks

You could go down the route of healthy faecal implants to get some good bacteria. Don't fancy it myself, someone else's s**t stuck up my rectum. But then again people have colonic irrigation and I can't understand the appeal of that either!

Yeah, I don't want that either.
