Having had a look around the net, Coeliac Australia is not recommending it for anyone with coeliac disease.

coeliac.org.au/news-stories...

The study gave the 20 coeliac participants one gram of gluten a day, and the enzyme appears to have prevented damage to the small intestines in those who didn't have to withdraw from the experiment.

One suggestion is that this enzyme might be helpful in situations where there may be difficulty following a gluten free diet... More research is needed.

helpful reading Penel - thank you! I am always suspicious of these claims but it would be so good to hear news of breakthroughs.

There is ongoing research in the UK with participants but the results have not been promising. Apparently it's too simplistic.

Do you know what simplistic means Jacks?

Yes, that's why I used the word! No seriously, I understand that the research is giving people a false sense of hope because it is more complicated than that. There is also a jab being developed. It's not a one jab (like TB) and you're fixed, it would mean a constant stream of jabs, and then you could still react to gluten and be ill. I hope this makes sense, I've tried to simplify complicated research!

;) This is unsurprising I suppose. I am always concerned at new treatments like jabs and oral medication as I am not sure how well long they have been trialled/tested for. Where did you get this info from?

It was one of the clinical trials I agreed to.

There appear to be a few trials of 'treatments' going on at the moment (more reading).

The vaccination is an attempt to desensitise the body to gluten by injections of increasing doses of gluten. Not sure that I would want to try it!
