This a bit of a long article ( but very interesting). I think it suggests that coeliacs are more highly evolved because their bodies are more adept at protecting themselves from wheat which the author claims is a toxic substance to everyone. The body protects itself by damaging the villi to decrease absorption and flushes the wheat through as quickly as possible ( diarrhoea ). The author also believes that for those who do not have this reaction, the damage caused by gluten can manifest in various other ways that would never be attributed to gluten intolerance.
thanks for sharing this was really interesting..I have had all the symptims, was tested neg w/blood tests and again neg with biopsies, but they did find an issue in the intestines...going GF has eliminated almost all the symptoms in the last 2 weeks..left with severe thigh muscle/and ankle pain....also am feeling the pain in my fingers sometimes...just reporting, maybe this will all change in time....
GFMom - thanks for posting this. It does take an interesting slant on Coeliac Disease as you say. It also confirms what many people like Dr Fasano and Dr Rodney Ford have been saying for years i.e. gluten is bad for everyone. It also highlights gluten sensitivity which is still not discussed enough. We'll be pinning this to our pinterest page/ gfguerrillas for others to reference.
This is a very interesting read. I have been trying to convince my mother of the lack of necessity of eating wheat EVERY DAY (she's not diagnosed but she has too many symptoms for it not to be highly likely!) and after she read this article she came back to me and said "I'm finally ready to get rid of all the wheat-products in my cupboard!". So, thank you GFMom!
I had already read that the CD genes were too common not to confer some sort of benefit, ie natual selection would have mean they would disapear. Coeliacs actually have lower incidence of some cancers and the increased risk of others is reversed on a GF diet.
