Hi Sambs, I think this is a good question as members of forums are not often sure who runs things behind the scenes. So heres the low down on GFG and just as importantly the HU team.

Fiona started GFG and Fiona and Irene are admin of GFG but they have no control if HU want to change the layout of the sites which happened a couple of years ago and Fiona commented that they hated the new layout.

The HU groups were started to not only help sufferers but to help guide the big medical co's with feedback to meds etc. So the HU sites use cookies to collate info that is then passed onto relevant companies. So the HU guys are self confessed geeks and make a living from the sites. Which is in all our best interests in my opinion for obvious reasons, as our personal info is always private.

Now if any member has a problem with a post they can simply click the report button and say why they are reporting it or they can go directly to the HU team. Personally I think it's better to click report so the admin of the site can deal with it. When a spammer hits ALL HU sites then you can contact the HU team directly by clicking 'help' at the top of the page and then click e-mail us.

If I'm honest I'd like to see regular polls on GFG as they involve relevant topics and make members feel involved in their treatment. But thats another story LOL.

I hope this answers your question and any other members who wonders how it works.

Hi Jerry, yes it does thanks. I'm getting concerned at No. Of emails in my inbox, somehow I think you've hit nail on head. spammers!

So unfortunately ( given good intentions of the Communities on HU). I've made

All my profile Private. kW, which is a shame when the genuine members can glean some idea whether there is a common connection or not through similiarities of condition/s symptoms. I have been trying to help by giving people ideas or saying what my problems have or have not been.

Sadly GFG is the one Community I seen to have been target on most so I wasn't sure if all were genuine or not! Most new posts give me the feeling that something I've said has just been repeated word for word. Sorry if I sound paranoid!

Hope you didn't mind the Q. Sambs.

Thanks for tip about reporting, I'd forgotten that facility!

Also I'm not V good on this iPad so sorry about the numerous typos, not deliberate.

Hi Sambs, you're not getting new emails because of spammers on any HU site, this is because your email is always kept hidden. There are ways to protect your email and if being spammed then why not change it? That way you are always in control and if you register for emails from several sites use a separate email for them, to keep yourself safe and in control.

Now your other comment about being targeted on GFG, easy peasy solution, if someone copies what you have said on your profile then click report and report them for plagiarism, which's not aloud so will be deleted.

I would put what you want other members to read about yourself as other members can only contact you by private message and thats is kept on the HU server so again it's there for admin to see if it comes to that. I have a web site and theres a link to it on my profile and I've never had issues.

So if you have any issues that you feel are breaching your privacy on GFG as you're registered on other sites then here's a direct link to the HU team:

support.healthunlocked.com/...

And I'm glad that you asked as you obviously need to sort this out rather feeling you have to hide as we won't have that on here...

all the emails come into my inbox from HU, Jerry with the message from which ever community and respondent '- and always says iPhone user get the app!

I don't have an iPhone ! I'm on an iPad Air2 and HU app. may not yet be compatible with my higher no. IOS 9 OS.

I'm not very good at sussing all, this Apple Technology out. Have used Windows and who ever since it all started 30 yrs ago!

So I think a Vic 20 and Commodore 64 plus old manual then electric typewriters, qualifies me to be a BI oldie (in body, not spirit - ::-)

Oh no, I can't change change my email add yet again! Also

I think it's only HU has my email address for logging in, all my Q & A's are always done on the Community discussions. Do t know if that info helps or not,

No I was genuinely interested to know more, because on TUK if an admin answers it gives their name and says Admin beside it on their Discussion pages, although they all volunteers.

headway does not have Admins openly involved like you don't on here. just curious, as I said. I've been a HU member for almost 3 hrs now.

Thanks for explaining more about your community tho! sambs.

You'll get that message as you're on an Apple platform and it's indistinguishable from other products. About the referencing to your words - check for malware/spyware - easy enough for someone with 30 us of MS GIU experience. Or routinely delete cookies. That won't have come from here but will pick up what you're writing.

Hi Jacks - all those initials don't mean anything to me, don't know them so a a bit more confused, sorry. The Apple OS is very diff to

Don't know if it makes a diff or not but it's an ipadAir2 - bought last year, so not an older model. I also don't have a working PC now -ever since I got the iPad and tried to have cloud on both. I thiought they both use the same cloud!

See shows you whT a BI does to you - well me :-(

Thanks also for your reply. If ok I may pm you rather than take up non GFG space!

Oh dear my weather live app just said more snow tomorrow!

HI Sambs - there is one other way that you can report this issue to the HU team which is to use the drop-down menu (the button with a down arrow on it) just beside the Like and + follow buttons. If you click on that - report comes up, click on that and you can select your problem (click on personal abuse and a choice will be visible) and send it to the team. They should then fix it or follow up with you to help you solve this issue. Let me know if this helps!!

Thanks Calum. Yes it does help :-)

you'd think I'd remember that tip, I've been using HU for 2.5-3 yrs. mostly Headway, for Brain Injury caused medically, latterly Thyroid UK more often, and it was their comments about gluten that brought me here! I'm just now concentrating also on the Liver community, yes I've got a problem with that also, but it all seems connected!

However when HU website changed format it confused me a bit - we all went loopy on Headway!

Then I went made and bought this IPad - so all new OS for me! But thank you v much for your reply.

Hi SAMBS I hope those answers help. Irene and I are admins but she's been undergoing Cancer treatment so isn't as active on here as she'd like. We also have a number of volunteers like Jerry who've been here since the start and have a lot of knowledge and share it with others. Feel free to write posts or flag any issues about spam as Calum and Jerry said.

Thanks Fiona - I'm v sorry to read about Irene and hope they find a good workable treatment for her.

I just do a hell of a lot of research now on my own behalf because of the several conditions - but find so much in common with several conditions, so if I can help out by posting as and when I think some info may be useful I'll do so. I've been absent for several days because of ISP problems. Shirley.

Thanks SAMBS. Let's just say we've become mystery patients on the GF hospital food choices. Pretty poor. What other conditions do you have? The handy thing about HU is you have a family of other forums to help and relate to. Feel free to write a post sharing your info or introducing yourself.
