Hi. I'm planning a detox day with rest, just coconut water, bikram yoga and I'm thinking of colonic irrigation. I'm nervous about this. Pls can you share you experience? Positive, negative and mixed!

Thanks

I'm not sure that colonic irrigation is really necessary, unless you have constipation issues? Our bodies/ livers "detox" all the time. I tend to stick to plain water and an early night if I'm feeling off.

The yoga sounds like a good idea, and so does having a rest!

Whatever you do, hope you feel refreshed.

Hi physiogirl :-)

Been there a few times so...

there is no other therapy which is more misunderstood, maligned and misused (by some) than colonic irrigation. Basically, it is a method whereby purified water is introduced into the colon through a special sterilised tube in order to gently flush out toxic poisons, gas, accumulated faecal matter and mucus deposits which are concurrently allowed to flow out from the colon through a second tube. (taken from my book on the subject btw).

You lie on a bed on your left side, the practitioner introduces a tube into your bum, you both watch (well I did) the pieces floating away and discuss various things like candida infestation (I was convinced but wrong). When it's over she leaves the room and allows you to finish manually evacuating in a cubicle.

They begin going over your diet, health and activity levels and they give good healthly living advice. You do leave feeling it was money well spent. The first time was £65 and subsequent times £55 in Edinburgh. They should be registered nurses having completed a course and have an interest in alternative therapy.

You leave feeling lighter. I never got addicted (as some), just view it as a good ole clean out.

p.s. Allegedly, a middle aged man had pieces of crayons that he had allegedly eaten as a child come out, but to be honest it may well be an urban legend.
