Zizzi's restaurant chain

Had lunch in Zizzi's recently with a friend. I had my usual anxiety as I asked for the menu and whether there were any gluten free options and was very pleasantly surprised when the waitress said she'd get the special allergy menu for me. She then talked me through it and also told me which choices on the main menu would be OK as well. Playing safe I stuck with the gf menu and had a a very nice chicken salad. She apologised that I couldn't have pizza, but said it would soon be availabe. See zizzi.co.uk/data/menus/stat... for their allergy menu - I felt this was very encouraging.

Hi Mary

I am glad you had good experience in Zizzis. My experience was a bit different. This is probably since they are a chain - and training of staff etc. varies.

my expeirience was like this: I went there with a group of friends, about 15. Two days before I had rang them to say I was with that group and coeliac and what about g/f food. they said not a problem. I followed up with an email for which I did not have a reply.

before we had the meal, I introduced myself to the waiters and said I have coeliac and so on. Then we had a shared starter on a wooden platter. The staff gave everyone a plate for this except me. I asked for a plate but need not have bothered. The starter was all mixed up on the wooden board - mainly gluten stuff but there would have been some parma ham for me if only it had not been on wooden board mixed up with the other stuff.

Therefore I played safe for mains and had the rice, rather than something with g/f pasta, because I thought they don't know anything about cross contamination. The rice was OK for being g/f but the most stoggy stuff I had had in years.

Won't go there again - neither to any other Zs

That's a real shame, and I'm sure you're right that it must be down to local management. I won't get carried away then and assume every branch will be good.

Zizzis is one of my faves too. I have never had any problems there but just to make life easier for all concerned, I don't even consider anything else on the menu and always plump for the chicken and mushroom risotto too. It might be a tad boring but it's delicious-and safe!
