Does anyone have any recommendations for hot chocolate please? I have tried Green and Blacks and don't like the taste at all.

Hi Urbangirl - sorry, would suggest going online and googling gluten free hot chocolate/cocoa. I'm surprised you tried Green&Black's as the last time I checked it said on their label 'may contain cereals' so I steer well clear of their products. Do they now state their products to be 'gluten free'?

Thanks Lexy. My husband bought it for me when I first got diagnosed last December as he thought it was gluten free. We were both learning about labels then and made mistakes. Anyway, I didn't like it so didn't take more than a few sips and never drank it again. But I have now checked it and you are right about the labeling advice. I think that Ghiradelli products may be gluten free but contain soy lecithin. Not sure if that is okay for me or not. Also I don't know where to get Ghiradelli products from in the UK and they are very expensive. If anyone knows about this please let me know. I didn't do too well with google searching and wondered if others may have recommendations. I really miss hot chocolate!

Would it be worth melting some gluten free chocolate bars (Aldi has some called Moser Roth which state 'gluten free' on the label, although I noticed last time I went in that some of their labels have dropped that now! Not sure if their production line has changed or if the amount of gluten in their chocolate has changed...sigh) and making hot chocolate from that? I long since gave up finding a 'gf' cocoa and tend to use dark chocolate. Hope this helps!

Sounds so yummy! Will try this at some point but I always liked the convenience of the powder stuff! C'est la vie!

I buy Food Thoughts Organic Fairtrade from Sainsburys...very yummy

For some reason it's in the baking isle on the top shelf and not with the drinks.

Tesco have assured me their own brand (brown pot) cocoa powder is gluten free and dairy free. I mix it with sugar and non dairy milk (favourite is Alpro Almond at the moment) then microwave for 1 min stir and microwave for anothr 30 secs approx. Makes a lovely hot choc topped with glutenfree marshmallows :)

Hi Urbangirl, have you tried Spanish Chocolate. It's a thick hot chocolate ,it has starch in it but it is rice starch. I am coeliac an have not had a problem with it other than being addicted to it !

Hi Busby

The starch is E1420 modified starch. I can't find any reference to it being rice starch. Have you got a link for this, please?

in reply to Penel

Hi Penel I contacted The Spanish Chocolate Company and they informed me that the E1420 starch they use is rice starch.

Great to hear that. Thanks Busby.

I buy it from the Asda, it's in a lovely container and it's a bit more expensive than most others but I don't have it every day! If I did I would be as fat as a pig!

I kept buying apparently innocent-looking cocoa and then getting glutened, but have had no problems with one called Food Thoughts, which you can get in Sainsbury's in a red tin. I like the sound of the Spanish one!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. My husband picked up some Clipper hot chocolate which seems okay - I will try it. Don't know if anyone else has had experience with it. But I now feel stocked up for winter!
