how long would the sedation be in my system?

I am having an endoscopy and would like to know how long the sedation might be in my system? I need to do an Adrenal Saliva test as soon as afterwards as I am going abroad soon.

Would the sedation affect cortisol level? and if it does how many days should I ideally wait before doing the saliva test?

They normally say you can't drive for 24 hours after a sedation so maybe that's a guide to the length of time it stays in your system?

I'm not sure about the effect of the sedation on your cortisol levels, but I would assume that the stress of the procedure would definitely send your cortisol levels higher than normal and not sure how long they would take to settle back down to 'normal' for you.

I would leave it for several days at least or as long as possible. Someone else may have better advice. x

Hi, I had 2 gastroscopies without sedation, they just used some spray to numb my throat. It's quite an experience but I knew as soon as its done I can leave the hosp and carry on as normal :)

Hi all, I had the endoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy done this morning. I had the sedation and don't remember much! do not remember anything really. I am home and doing fine.

I rung the lab re how long to wait to the saliva test, they recommend I leave few days.

thanks all for your replies. xx
